Apples! OK, maybe I need to get my own photo blog.
My little apple tree is being quite productive this year. The apples are fairly small and not pretty, but I like them a lot. They keep well and we were eating them well into the winter last year. The tree produces more than we can store. You can't beat fresh organic fruit from your own tree.
They also make a decent pie. This one had apple and blueberry. Unfortunately, I cannot have pie in the house often, because I'll eat it right up.
No doubt some of you guys have nicer looking fruit trees in your yards and make nicer looking pies and have better photography skillz. You all should post more pictures of your gardens, home projects, your culinary creations, etc. I like seeing what you're up to, how you live, etc.
I really look forward to technology that makes uploading photos and posting them to the web even less fussy. I love taking photos but find it a hassle to deal with them in a timely way.
re Apples: How funny; I opened the thread as I nommed down on my 2nd piece of organic apple-orchard apple pie tonight, from a pie I made last night. I agree with what you say about pie. I could eat pie every day. Twice a day. But that crust? Not super healthy for me. Still, YUM.
This has been a universally great year for apples amongst the growers in my area. The stupid rain for half the summer seems to have been as good for apples as it was bad for tomatoes. Nice, because last year we lost a lot of apples to late frost that nipped the blossoms. So this year we are reveling in them. I was peeling one last night - they're all heritage, and I think this one was Blue Pearmain by its purply hue - and was bowled over by the apple aroma that arose when the peel was removed. It was odd - I feel like I haven't smelled an apple so darn appl-ey in ages.
Awesome, Dakforest! Makes me hopeful for out teeny tiny apple trees' someday production! We got three (Baldwin, Rhode Island Greening, and Braeburn) we've espaliered against the fence. It'll be years 'til they're producing but your pie photo is holding me over until such time!
Our apple tree, which was covered in apples last year, has -0- apples on it this year. Our plum tree is going bonkers and there are even a few pears on the pear tree which has had almost -0- pears on it since we moved in four years ago. I know fruit trees cycle, but it's still weird.
