BABY GONNA CRY? WRITERS BLOCK. Possibly one of the more important pitches of my career and while I know exactly what I want to say, in the order I want to say it, and what I want to convey I can't FORCE MYSELF to MAKE THE LITTLE MARKS that means LETTERS Into WORDS that mean SENTENCES cause it is all suck and I suck and god won't someone kill me.
IT HAS BEEN TWO WEEKS.

GAh I am so going to regret this.

GAH! That sounds quite awful. Can you start with the verbs? If you know what you want to say...you might be able to start with verbs. THEN, fill in some nouns. At that point, I would bet that the block might be cleared and you can edit some.

Give it a shot?

I send off a very rough outline and still convinced It is the worst thing I ever wrote ever and that's JUST with character descriptions and a general idea, not even the actual OUTLINE OF EVENTS I was supposed to do and and ugh why can't I live in a cave with tasty crawdads

Whelk, that's just your lazy side trying to get you out of doing the work. (If I suck, then why bother, right?) Talk back to it. Tell it, yes, yes, I know, I suck, the work sucks, the world sucks, now leave me alone. Then turn the volume down and start writing. It's important to allow yourself to suck. As you know, sucking is part of the process (ha, ha). At this stage, maybe it does suck. So what? The world won't end. Maybe I can make it work, and maybe I'll write something else instead. But I won't know unless I try. (It can be safer not to try.)

You also may not be as ready to write as you think. In your mind, you have a finished product, but it isn't really. You may be trying to skip some steps, and sometimes, that works, if you're really on a roll, but it's unreliable. More often you just have to grind it out. Try some more brainstorming and focused freewriting to loosen things up, flesh out the ideas. Then put them aside, work on something else for awhile, and come back to it with fresh eyes. A little distance can help a lot.

Also, make a schedule and keep it. When your brain's all wonkers, routine will save you. If you're like me, once you start, you generally enjoy the work, but it can be painful starting.

Sounds like you're under deadline pressure, too, which can be good. At least you got something out, sucky as you think it might be (it's rarely as sucky as you think). Believing it sucks may also be a motivating tool for you (I better work that much harder if I suck), and a way to brace yourself for the worst. (They say it sucks, well, I already knew that.) Hysteria has its own rewards.

Now if I can only take my own advice (I have about ten projects sitting in my brain smoking and reading the paper.)

Good luck...

If it makes you feel any better, I just submitted a comment to MetaFilter with a typo in it, effectively butchering my joke. Poor little fella... never had a chance.

Thanks all. I broke my ever-post-while-raging-and-drinking-rule but it seemed to go well. Back. To. Grindstone.
