What was Dinner? Well, c'mon, what did you have, no lying.
[More:]

I am cooking roast lamb, fat cut off, marinaded in coconut and paprika and sesame oil, served with cauliflower fried in garlic. This is to make up for the fact that all I had to eat today was an Onion Bagel, a Roll with butter and cheese (good cheese! Chome! Oh I love it so, with added poppy seeds), a handful of dried soybeans and "french red fruits", and like two bottles of wine and a gallon of coffee. I'll let you know how it went.
I had a torta and a taco at La Esquina. The taco was a little spicy for my taste. I also had rice pudding from Rice to Riches- cheesecake with cherry topping.

Macaroni and cheese. But tomorrow we'll have fresh pork picnic made into pulled pork via my crockpot!!

Chaumes, sorry.

God, I'll never learn french at this rate.

Actually all my favorite traditional European dishes seem to be Monastery-inspired. Chesse, bread, ale, onion. I was a monk in another life, I suppose.

Food I made over the weekend reheated since I hate having to think after getting home from work: rice ball with a cheese middle, chicken and cheese baked ball, roasted green beans, salad, and milk.

And just before I made dinner, I taste-tested a white chocolate cream cheese muffin fresh from the oven. (And by taste-tested, nomming greedily since it was so tasty.)

french bread pizza.
I just got out of class and have homework, so no time to cook tonight.

We had vegetable beef soup made with all the veggies I got this past weekend at the big Madison WI farmers market. Along with toasted sourdough bread, also from the farmers market. Then this afternoon I made some apple chips. It was really easy ... take a couple of Granny Smith apples, slice them with a mandolin, toss well in a mixture of sugar, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg, and bake in a low oven for 2 hours, turning every 30 minutes. Delicious. Plus it made the house smell divine. It was sort of a chilly rainy day here so we had a rather fall-like dinner.

Oh Sperose, your baking stuff always makes me want to want to break out the flour before I realize I don't have that kind of patience or exactness. I am a student of the Big And Loud school of cooking. I do a lot of frying and nearly raw steaks and stir-fries and tempura and the only time I bake is yorkshire puddings.

Turkey sandwich on wheat (lettuce, onion, pepper jack, horseradish mustard) and a fancy dulce de leche cupcake (it was a coworker's birthday today).

Still at camp and tonight was Thanksgiving dinner so the kids had turkey, cranberry, stuffing, and potatoes. As a veggie, my meal was a black bean, squash, and tofu mixture.
I went on one of the trips to the farm today with the oldest girls, and it was really fun. We picked squash and brought back a bunch of delicious sungold tomatoes which we demolished on the car ride back.

Leftover couscous with sweet caramelized onions, sautéed with raisins and garbanzo beans in a cinnamon honey sauce topped with toasted almonds from the place across the street.

I had a party earlier this month where I made about a metric ton of chicken satay. I had a lot of marinated chix left that I never grilled, so I chucked it in the freezer. Tonight I pulled it out and grilled it up, and put it on top of some steamed jasmine rice and some sauteed peppers, onions, carrots, and mushrooms with lime juice and soy. Not at all bad for 'leftovers' if I do say so myself!

Bubble tea, since I had pho for lunch and their "small" was still pretty damn big.

Maybe I'll go snack on leftover roast chicken later.

An egg sandwich and a handful of pretzels. My cooking skills and eating habits seem to have degraded twenty years back to college. Since my son's out of high-school and my wife tends to work until 7 or 8, it's usually just me for dinner and cooking for one is boring.

A couple of biscuits fresh from the oven with honey; a glass of milk.

no lying.

Oh, in that case: five biscuits fresh from the oven, one with honey; a glass of milk.

I mostly cook for one, octo, and I like making things like stews and gumbos and chilis--the kind of stuff that tastes better after a few days in the fridge. I also really dig stopping at the store on the way home from work and buying something fresh (sea creatures, usually) to cook for dinner.

Basmati with mixed veggies, onion, sea salt, pepper and aproximately 453 pounds of real butter.

It were delish.

I also cook for one the way box does, especially things I can easily freeze (and later nuke)in one-meal portions. My fresh-food stop right now is a local farmer's stand, gorgeously good.

Thanks Kangaroo, for the apple chip recipe - I just added it to my list of snacks to make immediately.

Half a souvlaki and too many pints.
posted by pompomtom 26 August | 22:15
the lamb was a bit overdone and the veggies a little overcooked with a little too much heat.

But pretty solid and pretty okay and pretty nice.

Pizza and bacon and pineapple is just ...heavenly.

I just ate sliced summer squash (from the garden) roasted with a mash of Rogue Creamery blue cheese, butter, and dijon dotted throughout. At 12:30am. That's still dinner time, right?

Fried noodles. I've gotten (gotten? more like "continue to be") really lazy about cooking. Shame, because I like cooking a lot.
posted by Stewriffic 27 August | 05:29
faineant - bake at 200 and when you take them out they'll be a little soft but they'll firm up as the sugar dries.
posted by Kangaroo 27 August | 07:26
Whelk--I'm not nearly as exact as I probably should be either. I half-ass lots of things but they always seem to come out tasty. I guess the cooking gene skipped a generation in my family.

I made a quesadilla because I was tired after the last day of my insane 100-km-each-way commute, and I am eating it in bed. And I don't feel bad AT ALL.

Manwich. Makes a great meal.

And tater tots. It's like being back in grammar school.

Last night's dinner was poutine from A&W. Neither the mister or I were very hungry and it's something easy to eat whilst lounging in one's motel room.
