Oh ffs, murinoids. Word up, lagomorphs. There are several murine critters in my folks' house. I have two questions:

1) What is the best way to get them outside, especially if there are baby mice/rats? I do not want to kill them.

2) Are these in fact mice or rats? The poops look like chocolate sprinkles, and the one live one i saw was maybe three inches long except for its tail and really scrawny.
Do you mean mice? Google searching for murinoids shows this thread #1. I have a have-a-heart trap which you can bait with peanut butter, then take the mice outside. Mouse poop looks sprinkles-y, rat poop is generally bigger. I have one of these too which is good if you think you have a lot of mice because it will hold more than one.

make sure you empty the self-resetting traps regularly or else you'll end up inadvertently creating murine thunderdome.

Get one of these, you won't have to kill a thing.

Meh. I left the garage door open tonight and went back out and lifted a big bag of bird food to move it from the floor to a high shelf and came face to face with a skunk. Good thing neither of us is the skittish type.

I don't think you have lagomorphs! Murinae is more like it. Sprinkles-size poop, 3" long, sounds like mice.

I've never had rats in my house, but I've seen plenty of them, and I think they are pretty unquestionably RATS when you see them. They're quite large, and their long naked tails are also large and thick, so they really make a certain impression that a skittery little mouse tends not to. My vote: If you're asking yourself "Was that a mouse or a rat?" it was probably a mouse, because when you see a rat, you don't ask yourself anything, you say "HOLY SHIT, A FUCKING RAT."

Miko, lagomorphs = 'bunnies'. I was giving you a general greeting. :D

I wasn't sure whether it was a mouse or a rat, so I used the general term 'murinoids' to describe both.

Anyway, it's probably a mouse.

I will see if I can get my folks to invest in a have-a-heart trap.

Thanks!

Oh, I get it now. It was sorta hard to follow the syntax of "Oh ffs, murinoids. Word up, lagomorphs."
