The wedding was Aug. 8th. It was a cloudy day, but warm enough, and no rain.
We walked down the aisle to
Sigur Ros "untitled 3" from "()". We were married in a neo-Viking ceremony by my
best friend Ryan's husband (also named Ryan, to make things confusing) who we had
ordained for the occasion. I wore
red, the groom wore leather. My bouquet was made of
sunflowers. We
exchanged swords (
his and
hers)and keys and our mothers performed a
handfasting. Our recessional was
"Ágætis byrjun" by Sigur Ros (which means "a good beginning"). We served
Smithfield BBQ pork shipped in from Eastern NC (
they blogged about us!), bourbon sweet potatoes, grits casserole, corn on the cob, jambalya, and sweet tea. My step-mother made the
cake, chocolate zucchini with a cream cheese frosting. The groom's friend Heather performed a
wedding blessing tribal bellydance for us, and our
first dance was to
"Brand New Key" by Melanie.
It was beautiful and fabulous! My ultimate fairy tale wedding, just the way I wanted it. My husband's vows were so sweet and lovely.
We followed it up with a cruise to Alaska, which was much needed after all the craziness.
