I just learned that hospitals stock beer for alcoholic patients, which makes me wonder given how bad their food, how bad is their brew? Is this where Iron City unloads its excess?
You're right, it's probably stadium-quality beer. No way would insurance cover for actual Guinness or the like.

Still, how awesome would it be... "Yeah, I'm here for a heart bypass." *crack* *foam* "Who wants a pretzel?"

Why is hospital food so bad? Really there's no good reason for it. You can cook good food for cheap in bulk if you are clever.

But Guinness is good for you!

A pint of the black stuff a day may work as well as a low dose aspirin to prevent heart clots that raise the risk of heart attacks...

In England, post-operative patients used to be given Guinness, as were blood donors, based on the belief that it was high in iron.

Man, beer wasn't on my menu list. If only I'd known to ask...

I remember when I was a kid my mum going into hospital and they gave her Mackeson Milk Stout, which was similar to Guinness but cheaper. The advert for it used to show a barrel of beer making out with a churn of milk.

'Why is hospital food so bad?' - I don't have an answer but right now sitting in my toilet from horrible constipation is a stool so hard, dense, heavy and dry, I needed a pharmacy strength softener to pass the damn thing and so far it has compltetely resisted 10 flushes. The nurses and I have dubbed it 'the lizard choker of Fresno County'.

In this instance, 'pics or it didn't happen' shall be suspended.

I hope this means you are feeling better, Ardiril, but stop hatin' on Iron City! :)

I think you just answered your own question.

I'm pretty sure that the Mackeson Milk Stout slipped that milk jug roofies.

Wait, rollick, your sister had rabies?

Wow, I'm impressed with hospitals these days. Ardiril gets his chest cracked open and arteries violated, and less than a week later he's well enough to describe on a cell phone his constipation in detail? Three cheers for your excellent surgical team.

Yay, poop! Just being able to go is a blessing... After my fibroid surgery, I couldn't pass a bloody thing for five days, not even a toot, and they wouldn't let me eat anything but liquids until I did. I was desperate enough by day four to try an enema (from a tired, surly night nurse, no less), and still nothing. It just disappeared into the bowls of my, well, bowls. The doctor finally changed the orders anyway on day five, and let me tell you, that hospital food tasted great. I don't think it was just the five-day fast either; it really was good (St. Raphael's in New Haven, CT).

So glad your up and about, Ardiril. Better that lizard's out than in! : )

(also, who needs beer when there's morphine)

Hi Mel. The optimum time for a bypass today is 3 days, admission to discharge. My stay will be longer cuz my case started out so bad, especially the exwife's latest atunt.

You're right though; texting about it while still at the hospital is really cool.

Fresno should be so lucky to be eaten by Ardiril's lizard poop.

So glad to hear you're up, about and giving us details on your bowel movements... which is a sentence I never thought I'd ever type.

nope, my sister isn't scared of water. she goes swimming all the time

Hmmm, I remember my dad was in for longer...but what he had was a valve replacement and pacemaker installation due to an anuerysm.

I guess the morphine is repsonsible for the toilet choker. ;-P
