This is a sighing thread. Thanks to state budget thingys, I have the day off without pay. It's a beautiful day, and I'll make the best of it, but I just thought I'd sigh a little. *sigh* *sigh*
Blech. How many furlough days do you have? The poor state workers out here have three Fridays a month. I'm so very angry for them. I feel very strongly that average Joes and Janes, who work for an undazzling middle income, and whose only crime is going to work every day to make the state actually run the way it's supposed to, SHOULD NOT be punished for what is very definitely not their fault. And that's what's happening -- they're being punished for others' mistakes and oversights.

Grr. I don't want to get started on this this morning. It makes me too angry.

Anyway, JanetLand, I hope you have a great day. Go throw some stones into the Atlantic for me.

I have 10 furlough days each fiscal year, for two years. For now; there could be more when they do the supplemental budget next winter. As a final affront, my office had to proofread the budget document that made it happen.

Hey, JL? Here's what I propose - if this furlough thing is a guaranteed event that you can plan around, why not take your sigh into your community and find some way to make a difference to someone?

There's probably something you could do with this day to turn this crap situation into a major, major bonus for someone else.

That is an excellent idea, LT.

My mom works for the county here and they're talking about a wage rollback as well as furloughs.

I have one furlough day. It coincides with a planned vacation, so I'll just use one less vacation day and my paycheck will be a bit smaller that month, but, as a public employee, I feel like I dodged a larger bullet this time.

My place announced months ago that there would be no pay raises of any kind (unless you moved into a different job) for the next year. Of course, things were bad enough since all the library staff only got a piddly 2.5% cola adjustment TO BEGIN WITH. And now we're not even getting that.

I'm still thankful of the fact that I even have a steady job to begin with, but damn.

Furloughs apparently came up in some of the supervisor discussions, but they've tabled that idea for now and will only resort to that if things get worse. :-/

A possible dream job is interested in hiring me... in another part of the country. I can not make the move as I've a family. I like family more than a dream job.

Sigh.
