MeCha Monthly Movie Club? Would anyone be interested in watching a movie a month and discussing it here?→[More:]I'm thinking select a movie (available on DVD) during the first week of the month - hey, that's this week! - and then discussing during the final week, that way there's plenty of time for folks to watch when it's convenient. Anyone interested?

I'd do it! I'm not sure if I'd be able to do every one, and we'll probably all bump heads on Netflix, but I like this!

Hmm, yeah that could be an issue for those of you that live in densely packed MeCha-areas, Sil. I hadn't thought of that. My discs come from either Wichita or OKC, so I'm not too concerned on my end.

Anyone have any thoughts on a nomination/voting process? Just want to select 3-4 options and come to a consensus?

That's cool by me, BoPo, although I was really hoping to do "Goodburger" as our ground-breaking movie...

Would people like a specific genre to choose from for each month, or should we just go hurdy gurdy all in?

I think it's a fun idea, though it's probably best to let someone just pick the movie each month, so as to avoid the endless go-round.

This is relevant to my interests.

We could each submit twelve (or so) and then vote for the top twelve out of those, maybe? Tigersurvey would work for a longer checkbox list and it would ensure a nice broad selection.

Would participation be required every month? I don't have Netflix (or really plan to get it soon) but this sounds like something I'd like to do whenever possible.

Glad to see a good number of people are game. Oh, and don't worry, I don't think anyone will be taking attendence in discussion threads.

I'm tempted to support TPS's suggestion, at least at the onset. Maybe we can pick one person to choose a movie for August, then they can select someone during the discussion thread at the end of this month for September's choice etc.?

I'll be keeping an eye on this at work today, but can't post to MeCha from my BlackBerry for some reason, so y'all can work on the nitty gritty.

Hugh makes a good point--selecting reasonably-accessible titles (ideally, the kind of thing that would be available not only via Netflix and Bittorrent, but also at the library and the Blockbuster) seems like a key to maximizing participation.

I agree with just picking the movie and going for it (like with photo fridays) instead of voting and just seeing who participates.

Glad to see so many are down. I'll bite the bullet and pick the first movie , unless someone else would like to step up and get us going.

Failing that, I'll dig through my queue in a little while and post a new thread when I come up with something.
