30 July 2009

Mark your calendars, Aug 4 - The latest round of personal stress proved too much for my heart, and on Tuesday I get to experience a massive bypass operation that was considered impossible last year. To commemorate the occasion, I will not shave my armpits prior to Tuesday and I ask that my friends follow my example.
(((Ardiril))) I can't help but have hope, no matter how small.

I haven't shaved my armpits since last Saturday, so I think I can keep it up for a few more days :)

August 4. So we'll be getting tweets from you on the 5th?

I hate shaving my pits so consider it done!

Impossible? Are you considered more stronger/stable now?

Oh, wow. That sounds pretty harsh, dude. Is J. going to be able to hang out with you while you recover? I can imagine this will lay you out for awhile, even though I'm sure the procedures have improved since the last time you had to go through this.

All the best, sir. Sounds promising, that they can do a procedure they couldn't do last year. One question: Can I have your jell-o?

As I've posted before, hairy pits are MUCH less clammy when it's muggy....one of the reasons why it's there!

A bit more clarification while I feel a bit stronger. The basis for my SocSec disability was that my overall condition was inoperable at the time, 2 1/2 years ago. Techniques develop or improve over time, and so far I have stayed ahead of the curve.

The flip side is that new techniques have few doctors trained, qualified, and most importantly, experienced to perform them. The procedure I will receive will not just bypass a few blockages but replace arterial systems virtually in their entirety or reroute other arteries to my heart from their original destinations.

I feel I have a good surgeon here in Fresno and they can perform the operation next week. My options involving transplants did not sound desirable for a number of reasons.

Make me a nice memorial page if need be. With bunnies!

Sending good thoughts to you, Ardiril, and looking forward to getting a 3-D pop-up Christmas card from you this year.

Dude, I've never completely gotten over Rickey dying, and you were one of the people who got me through that, especially with that last weird trip to Pittsburgh. (Which was therapeutic even though it was.... weird)

So you have to at least be on this half of the continent before you consider doing anything drastic (like, y'know, dying. Don't do that. That's drastic).

You know, Thayer lives up in Portland now... if you can email me some details about your location, I'll send them to him and he could probably make it down to Fresno (though he is pretty much as broke as he always is). I will try to hustle his self down there, though, if at all possible.

Aug 4th~! Why, that's just around the corner! Hope this means it's turning a good corner for you. Yes, hope that very, very much indeed. Sending you good karma for a fine plumbing revision.

And, no shaving for me till we hear from you! This means that you must recuperate quickly cause, to be selfish, I'll note that I really like wearing sleeveless tops in this muggy heat. And, I do tend to get really hairy very quickly.

Sends gentle wuffles to you. (((Ardiril)))

Best thoughts and best wishes your way.

I gave a botched description of what is happening on Twittter. I have a number of options, none of tem great. The transplant option seems most finite, very high risk with a likely life span of 3 to 5 years with a low quality of life overall.

What I call the rotorooter route basically blasts through a blockage by way of a catheter run up from my leg artery. If anything goes wrong, I am screwed because of the time needed to crack my chest cavity.

The last methhod and the one I chose is like an ultra-bypass. It requires cracking open my chest and virtually replacing entire aretery systems and possibly diverting other arteries from their original destinations.

None of these is permanent except the bypass and it is high maintenance with a limited lifespan. My choice is somewhat high maintenance and could affect other organs in a domino effect bit but appears to give the best chance of living until the next advances in technology arrive.

I still can't convince anyone that liposuction should be a part of the overall operation. Plus s little off my nose and a slight boadening of my chin.

I've called and emailed, but it's still early out there, and I know from the past that the hospitals don't allow electronics in some areas, so he probably wouldn't have access to his phone yet, even if he is awake.
