confession who else wants to be friends with the crazy theater ladies in coraline?
The end of that movie was terrifying. I'm glad I didn't bring my little girls.

Not to say that I didn't enjoy it. I did. But, you know...razor blade wielding spider women is not conducive to sweet dreams.

I hear ya Coldchef. *spoilers follow* Watching as an adult I was disappointed a bit by it turning into a paint-by-numbers redemption-through-adventure story in the end.. going by the trailers I was hoping that there'd be an alternate button-eyed world for all of us, not just some secret place in Coraline's house, and that the question of which world to pick would be more complicated than just "oh well this is an evil witch who's not gonna give you what she promised." You know? It would be awesomer if you could get all that in the other world, but something remained profoundly 'off'.

rollick: the acrobat skeeves me out :/ he's too wiry and the goddamn mice, man

1. Enjoyed it for the most part.
2. Didn't like the theatre ladies that much, but I liked the Russian guy and his мышки a lot.
3. Not scary, and I don't think I would have found it scary when I was a kid, either. I was pretty easily scared by stuff in movies or on TV, but I've noticed whenever lists of "nightmare fuel" movies come up, there are lots of things that I'm surprised by because I didn't find them scary and have a hard time even understanding them that way.
4. Еhe point where I got kind of disappointed was when it turned into a fairly dull "collect the missing objects" game with not even a hint of subversion about it.

Wybie was unnecessary....and I don't think it spoils the movie to say Other Mother was more menacing when she first appears in the book.

Wybie does seem to be kind of extraneous, yeah.
