UPDATE ALERT! No, I am not well at all; I'm just in a hospital that allows cell phones.

I had an angiogram Saturday that showed that my arteries are as good as my last, but my ejection fraction has dropped to 20%. Plus I have ths strange positional angina that only goes away when I sit in a proper chair. I can only sleep sitting up. No fun.

Tomorrow we will discuss putting me on a heart transplant list. The thing about that is I don't know how Medicare will react to that.

I don't know any other way to put this, but I'm pretty much on a death watch. Should anything happen, my son has BP's phone number and email.

Meanwhile, you can expect my usual mischief.

- luv m . ;-P

You'll be in my thoughts. And, along with hoping that you're ok, I'll definitely be wishing for you to get a nurse with a sense of humor.
posted by occhiblu 26 July | 21:51
We should start a donation drive to buy his nurse a sense of humour.

Damn, so sorry to hear that. Hoping for the best. Whatever happens it seems to me you've packed far more into your life than most of us and you should be proud of that. Best of luck with whatever the docs come up with.

You are too stubborn to die, dammit.
You don't want a bunch of sad bunnies, do you?

Seriously, I hope they are able to do something positive and not scary.
Best wishes, Ardiril.

I CAN HAZ MORPHINE! Lots of morphine. My limit is way beyond what I can imagine using morphine.

I forgot the question.
posted by Ardiril 27 July | 01:57
liliwing: stubborn? Damn betcha!

My standard for 10 on a pain scale has long been based on my last heart attack, the one that disabled me. The night before last I experienced chest pains that were 14s, lasted for almost 45 minutes, and my blood pressure was too low for anymore nitro or morphine. My poor nurse endured my wringing her hand the whole time. She was young and has only a little experience with patients dying on her

When it finally subsided so I could catch my breath -- it had been quite harrowing -- I said to her, "So, childbirth is worse than that, eh?" She laughed so hard, I know she wet herself from the look she got and the way she waddled out of the room.
posted by Ardiril 27 July | 02:17
Stay stubborn, Ardiril.
Also, please don't make any other nurses pee their pants.

Ardiril you make all the nurses pee their pants if it keeps you around, k?
posted by gaspode 27 July | 07:53
gaspode: interesting proposition, that.

I enjoyed another 45 minute round of "Too low BP for meds" last night, though the pain was only an 8 on the old scale. I believe my risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest is highest during these events. These are moments when the last thing you want to think is "Oh man, I gotta poop."
posted by Ardiril 27 July | 10:57
Hang in there, Ardiril. Please keep fighting. You're great.
posted by halonine 27 July | 11:45
You do all the pooping and pee inducing you want. Now how do we gather up your stem cells and grow you a new heart from one of those templates they show on Oprah or make you bionic?
You don't even have to share your drugs. No one's allowed to give you the stink eye about it.
