What's for lunch? [More:] I drove in to work today and am completely overwhelmed by my options. The dithering is taking up my whole morning. Taco? Falafel? Big salad? Veggie burger? Chili cheese dog? Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrgh!

What did you or will you have?
Probably an avocado-salsa-swisscheese quesadilla and some melon.

Cold zucchini surprise and a pepcid. I just had it.

a cold lentil and grain salad with peppers. and more coffee.

I'm also looking forward to socca for dinner.

What's socca?

I had a piece of zucchini bread at work around 11. When I got home I had a hard boiled egg and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Socca (also called farinata--which may or not be spelled that way) is a flat quickbread made of chickpea flour and spices, usually cumin, but sometimes rosemary (& onions!). Basically, equal proportions of chickpea flour and water, with some olive oil, salt, pepper, cumin, whisked into a batter about the consistency of thick cream. You let it sit for a while, then heat up olive oil in a cast iron skillet (oven set at 420, is what I usually do), pour the batter in, cook it 10 minutes-ish until set, pop it under the broiler to get toasted, and eat it!

Yeah, my coworkers have a bunch of different stuff in the fridge too.

A Lean Cuisine frozen enchilada dinner and sadness.

That socca recipe is really similar to an Indian pancake I first found in a Madhur Jaffrey cookbook. You mix chickpea flour and water until it's the consistency of a slightly-thin pancake batter, then stir in Indian spices. (Garam masala would work if that's what you like to use, but I usually mix my own.) Cook it like a pancake, top with curry. It's thinner than a pancake (no leavening), but thicker than a crepe, and very tasty.

leftover stromboli from dinner last night.
My mom made it ALL the time when I was a kid, it was my favorite. I tried my hand at it last time for the first time and, well, started a teensy little very minor... grease fire. oops.

Talked to my mom about it, she said "well, yes, the recipe does say use a stone, but christ, all that oil in the meat and cheese, and the oil on the peppers... you need a pan with a lip or your kitchen will go up in flames!"

doh.

Socca sounds yummy. So does danf's quesadilla.

I had a #3 from McD's. Yeah, bad me, but at times McD's is what hits the spot.

I've got a salad (which for me = romaine lettuce and wee bits of shredded mozzerella and Ken's honey mustard salad dressing) and Coke. I had some of my crossiant pizza earlier when I thought that my mother was coming to take me to the Amish market (which ended up being a bust since it closed on the 4th.)

Lean Cuisine. Had chicken in it.

It's going to have salmon in it, that much I can assure you of.

Because I am seriously hurtin' for my Omega-3s.

I had homemade Thai Prawn Curry leftovers. It was insanely tasty. Sweetness from the coconut milk and pineapple, astringent herbiness from the pineapple sage, citrusy tartness from the lemon rub and lime juice, aromatic savoriness from the red bell pepper and onion and garlic, and spiciness from the Thai red curry paste and bird chiles.

Oh, and over fragrant jasmine rice, natch. Also some grapes.

I had a grilled cheese sandwich and a diet coke.

yeah, and I wonder why I'm still 20+ lb over my pre-pregnancy weight.

I had some gumbo and a donut peach. And a bunch of iced coffee.

I took my mom out for some serious pizza at Di Fara's.

A double bowl of Raisin Bran for breakfast/lunch at 4:30pm. Will probably have a little more for dinner. It's the easiest thing to eat at work that's filling and at least somewhat healthy.

I ate a little after noon Eastern. Corned beef hash, scrambled eggs, french fries, toast with butter and jam, and a bottomless coffee at the diner on the corner.

Then I sat on the stoop and worked on the Manifesto with my partner-in-crime.

Tuna mixed with dijon mustard and pepper, and a few pickles on the side. (I am trying to get out of the habit of going out for lunch. I *like* going out for lunch. Sigh.)

Aw, this makes me extra sad that MetaChat is blocked at work. (Presumably due to the word "chat".)

I had a watery zucchini and chicken "light" frozen dinner. Blech.

A pile of cherries, a coffee, a glass of water.

Not only are we in the last crunch of preparing for the wedding, but we're in the midst of a family crisis. Between the two events, we're not cooking or preparing food, not even to the extent of slapping together bread and cheese to make a sandwich.

In times of pressure, I'm like a raccoon: I want food I can pick up, possibly wash, and eat immediately.

I had a some paneer stuffed naan with some tomato pesto and salami. Then an apple and coffee.

Lunch was a pulled pork sando, with rockin' good slaw. Dinner was a fridge full of leftovers that somehow turned into zuchinni stuffed with sausage, onion, two kinds of mushrooms, polenta, parmesan, chives and house-made breadcrumbs.

Leftover tomato and olive pasta with puchi chicken meatballs and a couple of pieces of Australian milk chocolate (yeah!).

I did make the socca (with smoked paprika and cracked pepper) and it was the best I've made in a while. But, my pseudo-CSA delivery had also arrived (which I had totally forgotten was coming) so mostly I snarfed raw baby bok choy while cleaning the kitchen.
