Mac folks: Is there any way to print a document that's in ".pages" format if you don't own iWork? [More:]Trying to print a resume and cover letter emailed to me by a friend, and it's in this weird-ass format that I can't print here even on the Macs. It just tries to sell me the "iWork suite." WTF? Help?

Also, said friend is out of town for a week, so I can't send it back to him. (And this is our second attempt at this anyway.)

I can take this to a Kinko's or something if you think I'd be able to print it there.
There is a .pages to TXT format converter on Sourceforge. But it appears impossible to convert the file to a rich text format because of the strange Mac file format. The .pages file is an XML container -- which theoretically, MS Office should be able to read but it seems they decided they did not want to play nice with Mac apps. Your best bet is to find someone with a Mac and iWork: you can export the file in MS Office .doc format when using iWork. In the meantime, see if the text converter is good enough.

Could you e-mail it to someone who has Pages, who could then save it as a PDF? No idea if that would work.

Susurration, that app says I have to extract an XML file, it can't open the .pages file directly. I'm not sure how to go about that.

mdonley, I could, but the only people I know who have Macs are in other states. Gah.

Well, it may have to wait till my friend gets back in town, then. I DID ask him to give this to me as a .doc file, and this is the second time has hasn't done that, so either he doesn't know how or is bad at following instructions.

Isn't there an iWork trial? Will that work for your purposes?

BoringPostcards, I have Pages and can convert it to something for you. A PDF perhaps to print, or a .doc if you need to edit it.

I'm in #bunnies, or drop me an email at terry (at) macluddite (dot) net.
