Uh oh, I think I'm about to overthink this, but maybe larger boobs just helped them recognize that it was an adult female from their blurry, fast moving distance.
Maybe men are just more likely to stop for what is easily perceived as an adult woman, because most straight men would probably prefer to give a lift to a (sexy) lady than a man, boy, or girl child.
(I say this as someone with boobs on the larger side who would be perfectly happy to believe I had some super magnetic rack, but I don't think this study tells us that really.)
Sure, I still pick up hitchhikers occasionally, and wouldn't feel any qualms about doing it myself if it seemed expedient. But I couldn't even tell you when I've last seen a female hitchhiker. It's always guys.
As far as I can remember, I've seen one female hitchhiker in almost thirty years of driving. We gave her a ride but that was +20 years ago and I haven't seen one since.
