I seem to recall that an American college soccer player in the late '80s (early '90s?) was using this method for his sideline throw-ins. Must've gotten outlawed, as I never saw anyone else use it.

You still see that kind of throw-in every once in a while, I don't think it's outlawed. But it's gimmicky and most big soccer stadia don't have enough room for a lot of tumbling around in touch.
