Good vibes good news good goodness thread! [More:]

Today:

• Met the new boss - a fun guy with the same management ideas as me
• Had a great meal out with a friend
• Found out a family member will have the chance to visit
• FINALLY found a summer job

Yay! What's your good news?
Just had lunch with my boss.
He said he was very pleased with my work which eased a little bit of my anxiety.(Lately I have been wallowing in a pool of panic, stress, anxiety, and low self esteem).

I'm almost done moving and I'm almost on vacation for 2 weeks.

Comfest is this weekend! Three days of free festival funtimes in the park, and all the people I never get to see (because they don't live in Columbus, or they're boring and married) are sure to come out! Yay!

Found out today that my temp position, which was about to max out, is going to morph into a short-term contract position, which is going to morph into a permanent hire position. Yay! Job security! (At least until they start laying people off. And the university is priming us to accept the fact that pay cuts or furloughs are an almost-certainty at this point. So, boo. But at least I have a job. Yay.)

This is all made possible by the sudden retirement of a woman who is impossible to work with and who constantly stands in the way of other people getting their jobs done. My awesome boss, whom I'll be working more closely with now, predicts that by taking her place and by being a) competent and b) nice, I will become the "Golden Child." I'm looking forward to being the Golden Child, though not necessarily to the job itself.

And, I'll have my own office (with a window!) as of Tuesday. And, I'll soon have vision coverage, which means I'll be able to get the new pair of glasses that I've been needing for, oh, two years.

Also, I got new blood pressure medication yesterday and Oh. My. God, I feel so much better today than I have been feeling. "Experts" who say that hypertension is symptomless are full of shit.

1) My mom and stepdad arrived last night. It's really nice to see them, and they're helping me with prepping the new house. Painting, picking things up that I need to buy but that wouldn't fit in my car, etc.
2) I'm going to a beer tasting with them tonight and taking a friend of mine who used to be my housemate. It's a fundraiser for an organization I am very supportive of, and I'm really looking forward to it.
3) I'm taking the day off tomorrow and won't have to go back to work until Monday, so I'll have a good time hanging with the parents and painting the new house. Woo hoo!!!

Good stuff! Big & small:

- I just made a prototype duct-tape tote bag, with small inner pocket, outer pocket, and shoulder strap. It looks great! (It's a gift for someone whose pitching in with the planning.)
- Though we have a few major elements to go, I feel like things are reeeeeeeeasonably well in hand. Oh please please please please please let them be in hand.
- I am amazed how many of our friends have RSVPed yes. We've had something like 90% acceptance rate. Wow! So exciting!
- Ten minutes ago, I had an "ohmygourd what time is it what's for dinner?" moment. Ten minutes later: penne with chard, sherry-sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions with lemon-Parmesan sauce. And French bread from the freezer. I kick ass.

Mudpuppie, that sounds like a major change for the better! Yay!

Had a good planning talk about the next round of books and the next 6 months at the job with my boss today. We agreed on how my role should change in the coming months and set a pretty good schedule for the rest of the dept. Feeling accomplished.

Also, I am going to eat a burrito and watch The Fashion Show with my college friends tonight after boxing class. It isn't news but it is something I'm looking forward to!

Yayness all around!

My moment of joy comes from possibly thinking I might be able to do this flirting thing without having to go hide for extended periods of time.

Plus, I have warm tea and buttered toast right now. Homemade toast. Mmmm.

Yay for everyone.

My big vacation starts tomorrow! With a wedding in beautiful Santa Barbara (I love weddings) followed by a week in Nuremberg, Germany, visiting a dear friend who's stationed near there. I really need this, you guys!

YAY Gaspode! Yay everyone.

I am baking a sour cherry pie right now. I got some really nice sour cherries at the market over the weekend and finally today I made a pie. Hope it comes out okay. I'm looking for something to do with the juice I drained. Smoothies maybe?

I can pretty much leave Boston for Fresno anytime over the next 3 days.

I have decided to mail my books (taking advantage of the Media Rate), which will give me about 7 cubic feet less crap packed into the car.

I can take all the time I want, make detours, and visit any friends and family who live near I-90/I-80.

Hurray, Gaspode!

I can sleep in a real bed for the next few nights (the building going up two doors down can only have crane work done between midnight and 6 am)!

Had to have the car worked on and went to a place someone recommended. It's 1/2 mile from work, so I can walk to and from. They fixed the car the same day!

Yay! on the good job news above and other bits of goodness everyone is finding in their life.
