Wit from my father I was working on Father's Day, so I didn't get to do this, but this is a pretty typical example of why I always beat myself up for not updating my dad's blog. [More:]

This is a story he re-told recently on the family Yahoo! group, imperfect grammar and all:

The crabs were in season, so on [his brother's] way home from a trip to one of the cities in Mindanao, you bought some crabs. The crabs were tied together with the backs to each other, and the claws were tied shut to prevent them from hurting the holders.

The crabs were put in a small box ready for shipping. But it so happened that the flight was delayed. With no ice to cool down the packaging, after hours of waiting, the box started to smell. One of the flight attendants looked into the box and found out some of the crabs had died. So he opened the box, and dumped the the contents on the ground to sort them out. Some of the crabs that were still alive (of course) started to run away in all different directions.

Somehow, one of the guys surrounding the spectacle asked the stupid question of: "Why are they doing that?"

The attendant, most likely an amateur comedian replied: "Sir, if you have someone dead, tied to your back, you would run around too!"

It is funnier when told in Tagalog, but you get the point.

I don't think I'm missing anything in translation, though, 'cause it's a pretty funny story.

Anyone got other favorite family stories?
I've already told the story of The Finger.

Damn, now I'm really missing my father.

I'm sorry for making you sad. That was totally not my intent.

Oh, TrishaLynn, it's a good kind of sad, in that what's making me sad is missing the happy times--I'm so very lucky that there are far, far more good memories than bad ones. I definitely count my father as one of the good guys in the world, one of the best.
