Those are awesome. You wonder why they stopped building them -- and why they built them in the first place. Maybe this was just before Wide World of Sports.

Happy to share, and glad you like 'em. That Soldier Field one--in 1954, a ski-jump club rented the stadium, then hired a scaffolding company (Gilco, for the Chicagoans) to build it. They covered the jump with crushed ice instead of snow.
