20 June 2009

aloe vera, check, sun factor 55+ check, after sun, check.... - I'm going to Cannes and will be in the sun for the first time since 2001 and jaaybus I have a big fat case of travel nerves. :)) What if I turn into a nice lobster-red and match my hair the first day?
I'm positively NOT ALLOWED to get burned, because I'll be doing interviews (video) for adland.tv and am freaking out here, since I can't even wax without hurting myself (rashes are much better now thanks, I just look like a pink-and-white patchwork now, can be interpreted as if I'm waring unorthodox leggings). Any tips on how to avoid becoming a freckle-bomb as soon as I step off the plane?

Slather yourself in sunblock, wear a BIG HAT. Wear a long-sleeved but very light cotton shirt. Make sure you put sunblock on your ears, the back of your neck and hands and on your feet. Feet are often forgotten and can end up horribly sunburned. Put extra sunblock on your nose. Then add some more.

I sympathise. I am one of the burning brigade too.

I've been trying on my hats all day yesterday but none of them go with the kyoot dresses I've packed. Must pick up a big black straw hat asap.

Oh and I totally FORGOT about the facial sunblock stick - must find that. Thanks.

Have fun, dabitch. The trip sounds wonderful.

Don't forget to reapply often. I buy the SPF 70 with Helioplex or Mexoryl. Last week I sat under the umbrella for a half-hour before I applied and I came home with a minor sunburn on my face and chest. The lesson is to apply before you leave the hotel and then reapply every hour when you're outdoors. I know this but I'm stupid. I cringe every time I get too much sun. I can just see the future wrinkles.

If you want to protect your hair, wet it, apply a leave-in conditioner, slick it back, and wear your hat. My color treated hair gets fried in the sun if I don't protect it like this.

re-apply, re-apply, re-apply. Oh and did I mention re-apply. I have brown hair, blue eyes and very fair skin, I look out the window and burn. Re-apply over and over is the best thing I have finally learned.

Umbrella or parasol, if you are willing to put up with having to carry one around. Oooh, these are really cute.

"Slather yourself in sunblock, wear a BIG HAT."

... and post a pic! Especially if you go the parasol route.

Isn't there special UV ray hairstuff to buy? I might be able to get that there.

Hahaha, I'm doing more than posting pics, one can follow the adventures of me and anyone else at the advertising festival live from our cellpjones here: adland.tv/bambuser - I expect that me and Holger will be posting most at the beginning of the week but when the young lions kids are there I'm hoping for some extra crazy from them.

The residue on your hands from what you've put on your body won't be enough for your face. Use more....I found out that out the hard way at bunnystock last year.

Definitely reapply. My big problem is that my face sweats a ton, and I'm always wiping it. So even if I put on SPF 70, I'll fry unless I'm really on top of things. Also, depending on how much of your arms/back/shoulders you'll be baring, I'd consider getting some of the (aerosol) spray-on sunscreen. If you can, try them out by spraying a little bit on you. Some of them leave you shiny like you're covered with oil. That's fine at the beach, but not so cute if you're trying to look professional. Neutrogena makes a good spray sunscreen here.
