Lucid Dreaming Follow-Up - I'm Now Able To Comment On My Dreams While They Happen... [More:]

Seeing as my evil-drag twin The Whelk is sharing his dream life, so must I. It is prophecy!

Lately I've started lucid dreaming, not from any effort on my own - it just started happening a month ago, when I became fully concious in my dreamlife.

But another development has happened lately that I think I also significant, and I want to know if any other 'Chatters do this in their dreams also.

Mainly, I'm starting to analyze/comment/talk to other characters in my dreams about what's happening.

So, instead of freaking out and waking up when the truly surreal stuff happens, I sit with it instead and just see where it goes, or even talk to the other people in the dream about what their motivations are in doing stuff.

Silly case-in-point: last night I dreamt that The Kids in the Hall decided to play a prank on me and not tell me my girlfriend wasn't going to be home for a visit I had planned (I was evidently living in another city and was planning to stay for three days with her). So they decided to pretend to be everyone in the house when I arrived, and just mimic them to see how long I went before I noticed.

But instead of doing the usual, "woah - last night I had this weirdo dream about KITH and a visit, can't remember alla it...", I actually laughed at the joke in my dream and the rest of it was all about asking the KITH cast about how they pulled it off.

We all got to be buddies and the pranks continued on throughout the dream, and every time I was just enjoying them rather than being flipped out or confused.

Anyway, I guess the main point here is lately I've been getting a serious overlay of tourist-like objectivity in my most surreal dreams, where I can just sit there with them and get more involved in the backstory.

I think in real-world translation, this must be just an outgrowth of my recent volunteerism, especially around crisis work. Still cool, and more fun at night, though.

That's a great skill to have. I wish I could Lucid dream like I used to. Now when the going gets weird (or scary, hello years of nightmares!) my brain just SHIFTS the dream-reality to the left, shakes the world-upside down and starts new.

And yes, good skill in life as well.

(Also, who you callin' drag Lipstick?)

Holy Moley. I just got LT's user name. Just. Now.

hahaha! Rainbaby! WOOT! Awesome.

And by the way, Lipstick Thespian was a name given to me by another Metachatter. It was a gift-name. For my first-ever Metafilter meetup.

Back when I didn't know what a Metafilter was. And it was scary. Very scary.

"one of us, one of us..."

It's a good name. I think I was blinded by being a thespian myself.

On topic, that's a really great dream skill to have. It sounds very healthy. I don't do more than oh no I'm dreaming, wake up, and then go right back to the usually scary dream.

Sometimes I do write in dreams. Almost like automatic writing. I can't exactly read what I'm writing, but if I stop the dream action of writing, it stops the surreal monologue I've got running, so I keep writing.

Tell me? I don't "get it" beyond the literal meaning of the two words...

It's a pun on "Lipstick Lesbian", I think.

Also, LT is an actor. Though I guess that's the literal meaning of the word.

Did you know that, when LT's sister was in college, she matriculated?

yes, it's a pun on Lipstick Lesbian and it's funny because I'm also an actor, or thespian. Matildaben gave me my nick four years ago on our way to a Metafilter meetup in Portland, OR.

I will, Hugh Janus, oh yes I will. Someone must lead the children out of Canaan, someone must lift up their tiny voices and take them home....

Holy shit never explain the joke man!

Even better, then explain why it's funny. See, it's funny because there are these women that are gay who are very feminine, so people call them.....etc.

See, it's funny because there's this thing called an anus....

I didn't explain the joke that I finally got, but I did email the exp. to meatbomb.

I propose henceforth calling LT Boarding School Thespian. BST = BEST!

You know what I hate? I hate when you buy some yummy, healthy shredded wheat cereal and then at the bottom of the box, there's like a quarter-pound of wheat that's totally shredded!

Like hamster cage-fill shredded, no longer shaped in the amusing and delicious little bundles. What are you as a consumer supposed to DO with that?
