Betelgeuse! Betelgeuse! Betelgeuse! Scientists perplexed at dying Supergiant star shrinking rather than expanding.
Fortunately Betelgeuse is far enough away that we ... probably ... don't have to worry about being affected by it going supernova.

We might have some pretty bright nights for a while, though.

Keeping in mind that "predict a collapse within a timeframe of human civilization" is based on an assumption that human civilization is about 10,000 years old.

One of my favorite classes in college was astronomy. I had this great disheveled-looking professor who explained everything so clearly. The expanding universe, for example, represented by x's on a balloon. The x's/galaxies remaining fixed as the space between them increases, and he blew up the balloon.
