3-point weekend update [More:]
1. My birthday party yesterday was the awesomest party I've ever had. It was a 'tea and cakes' party. In all, 35 people (ranging in age from 2-84) came (including many bunnies). Even the upstairs neighbour from hell came, but I only invited him because I couldn't not, as I was inviting all the other neighbours, and because I knew he wouldn't stay long, he left after about half an hour. So that was ok. My sister took a shine to my friend Dave, and last night when a few of us went to the Chinese restaurant we were kidding him that he is in line to be husband number seven ...

2. The police were called to the party ... the phone rang, I answered it. "This is the Essex Police control room, we just had a 999 call from this number ..." It was the 2-year-old, whose mother had found him 'playing' with the phone in the living room. This is slightly different from the police involvement that used to result from the parties I threw in my drinking days ...

3. There was mucho cake (scones jam & cream, Victoria sandwich, chocolate fudge cake, carrot cake, cheesecake, fruit salad and meringues, tiramisu ...) and if Specklet doesn't give me the recipe for those little cookies I will be shunned forever by my neighbours.

Bonus point: I am a very, very lucky woman indeed to have so many wonderful friends. And, thanks to wilder, I don't need to go to the farmer's market today to buy vegetables, as she brought me a huge basket filled with produce from her own garden.
but I only invited him because I couldn't not

Blimey. What would have to do to be uninvited?

1. drove to charlotte & back & loaded, then unloaded $1000 worth of cabinets at current project site.
2. saw a well aged deer antler in a vice that was bolted to the rear bumper of a welding truck.
3. got 2 checks in the mail, making me feel that maybe, just maybe I am getting this little business off the ground. it made me smile & feel good. :)

Happy Birthday belated, EJ! sounds like a great time.

"911" is a lot harder to misdial than "999".

1. Went out to Ryan's to watch the Stanley Cup Final on Friday night. Drank too much Yuengling and ate too many onion rings watching the Pens win.

2. Bought a new car. A shiny black Honda Fit. It's very cute.

2. Have to study Python, XML, XLS, XPath and other web services stuff today to prepare for a job interview on Tuesday.

1. Awoke to the sound of my living room computer spinning its fan at full speed. Kernel panic!

2. Turned it off, and it was replaced by the sound of a loon. (Confirmed on #bunnies with Stewriffic.) Loons in Chicago. How 'bout that.

3. Back still awful. Worried having to sit in work chair tomorrow for 8+ hours.

1) Went on a nice hike yesterday with a friend.
2) Harvested onions and am now attempting to cure them for storage.
3) Pondered all the things I need to do both to move out of the old house (pain in the ass) and to move in (fun!). I concentrated, of course, on the move-in and decorating and the like.

1. Last weekend and performances of our cell phone plays. Fun, and chaotic, but great to work with a new group of people. Ironically, we had problems with the landline phones used in the show yesterday, so had to rely on everyone's personal cell phones.

2. Bought one of these new-fangled mop/dry broom with machine-washable attachments. Yeah, it makes cleaning *way* easier. I'm sorry I ever doubted them. Maybe too excited about this.

3. Picking up my new bike from a downtown store! But since I have a really busy day (and it will possible thunderstorm later in the day), I have to pick up my bike, ride it home and then set out downtown again!

1. had a gorgeous weekend staying with some dear friends. Interesting though. I was madly in love with the guy for years, and we had a thing just before he met his current girlfriend, who is now (I met her through him) a dear friend of mine. I never knew if she knew of my history with her partner, and didn't know how to tell her, or even if I should. It came out in conversation on friday that he mentioned it to her at the start, as he had hesitations about us becoming friends considering the history. I feel very relieved to know that she knows, and feel like a burden of weight has gone. I don't like keeping secrets, and I don't like feeling like I'm not being direct. I'm not in love with him anymore, and I think they are a great match, and she's wonderful. But it was still kind of poignant being in their new house, and seeing them together, and so forth. Not sad, but bittersweet.
2. The weekend was spent eating. We had: home made lasagna, mushrooms on toast w/ a poached egg and fetta, Roo sausages w/ roast potatoes, garlic and onion and a peppercorn sauce, homemade orange and poppyseed cake, homemade authentic belgian waffles, and mussels w/ chorizo sausage. NOM.
3. I am shamelessly cheating at The Sims. Unrepentantly.

1. I also had a great birthday! My plan was to meet some friends in Prospect Park, but then it got rainy so we just went to a cafe and then my house for wine before going out to dinner. The restaurant was perfect, not too loud, we sat in the garden, and the gay and lesbian parade went right by after I blew out my candle on my tiramisu! I pretended it was a parade for me. I do like rainbows...

2. I went to the gym and got a sports massage after, which was fun.

3. Today my dad is coming to help me hang curtains. I like it when people help me with things, not just because I am lazy, but also because whenever I use that thing, I think of them. Last spring I helped my then-bf alphabetize his enormous record collection. I hope when he looks at his neatly filed records he remembers us sitting on the floor with heaps and piles of records all around us.

1. Happy birthday to EJ and all the birthday bunnies!
2. Being a step and a half ahead of stewriffic in the Triangle homebuying process, we are fully moved into our new home and all major remodeling projects are complete. However, I still can't shake the feeling that I am just visiting, and that this is some sort of a summer camp. My new house is far more nested in the woods than my former house, which was fairly new, and in a new subdivision. On any given day, I find in my new house millipedes, centipedes, any manner of beetle, and about eight brazillion mosquitos. This is partly due to how long our doors were left open while heavy work was being performed. I hope to drive the critters outside shortly; accidentally stepping on centipedes is unpleasant.
3. Today I need to get down on my hands and knees and scrub my floorboards. I have convinced myself that once those are clean, I will feel some sense of completion with respect to the house.

2. I felt productive yesterday but don't feel like I did much.

That is all.

1. Did the half-hour drive yesterday up to Mount Rainier (well, the base of), ambled around a bit, reflecting on how lucky I am to live in this beautiful place.

2. Drove back, hit the library, discovered I was in the mood to reread some of the old John D. MacDonald mysteries. The only one checked in was the last in the Travis McGee series, which is all about age and time and change, and made pleasant back-porch reading while sipping Rangpur gin.

3. Sipped rather a lot of Rangpur gin. Achey head this morning. Damn age/time/change anyway. Going to gym.

we had such a good time at Jan's party, it was sooo good to meet all those scarey people I've only read about here on Metachat.
(really worried about my 11 year od son who thought Jan's sister was fantastic cos she spoke Top Gear, aka, boytalk!, Had to tell him 6 husbands will do that to a woman!)

We are still eating, and enjoying the Victoria Sponge!

Had a wonderful day also today, walking along Bexhill seafront for a change, blue sparkling sea, glass of cold white wine as an "aperativo" at the De La Warre pavillion, magic!
Just BBQing steaks now with more salad from the garden.

1. Spent some time with my mother yesterday. She actually called before she showed up and so I wasn't a total cunt and things went well. I got yarn because I need to start with some hobbies that don't involve staring at a computer screen from wake to sleep.

2. The boss is out of town this week. Of course, this means I should probably get started on a bunch of stuff that I need to wrap up and get off my to-do list so I can try and find something else to work on so I don't spend my working hours staring at a screen.

3. I'm contemplating trying to go out somewhere next weekend. I haven't decided where or what or even if I'll actually make it out of the house, but it's nice to have hope.

1. Was scheduled to work all weekend, but it got canceled at the last minute. Now I don't know what to do with all this free time.

2. Made a recipe for carrot muffins, but decided I wanted carrot bread instead so I just dumped it into a loaf pan and baked until it smelled good. Edible, but nothing I would share :/

3. I put up a shelf yesterday. Discovered that I am terrible at measuring out where to drill holes on walls (argh argh stupid latex-painted popcorn texture).

1. Played guitars at a couple Williamsburg guitar shops, including a real Fender Starcaster (not the cheap Strats they made in the '90's and labeled Starcaster but the real hollow-bodied bolt-on with the funky headstock and the leaning body) which was like riding a platypus.

2. Played my guitars, at home, and sang for the first time in weeks. My voice is still a little shot from the flu, but if felt so good to open up and croon a little. Plus, after a two-week break, my guitar playing is better than ever.

3. Declined an offer for a Brooklyn pub-crawl last night in favor of relaxing at home, playing around on IRC, rocking out, watching some of Over the Edge (1979). I don't know if I'll finish it, watching these kids hurtling towards self-destruction makes me nervous. Like watching soccer nervous. Terrifying.

1. I bought a nifty new pole pruner (and at just over half price at Ace). Assuming we keep all four properties it will continue to be well-used. It's relaxing hard work for me. With this one I can already reach much higher into trees and the design is much less likely to get bent out of shape than the Ace brand one I had.

2. Crazy party down the street. I was out to call in the noise when a car drove past for the second time and there were insults exchanged, after which that car and another zoomed away, turning the wrong way on a one-way street. Later the second car returned and threw some (small) firecrackers in front of the party house.

3. Feel a little under the weather, but not quite so bad once I had scrambled eggs. SHould have gotten more sleep last night, I expect. On waking it was awful enough that I had a glimmer of "swine flu?!" concern. That did pass.

1. Feel like I have something stuck in my eye (like an eyelash or something, but way in the back). Felt that way since yesterday. Eye doctor tomorrow if things don't improve.
2. Elected President of the church council this afternoon, yay.
3. Now: nap, rest, internet, dinner tonight with one of Marc's friends.

1. Yesterday- we took my mom out for a great birthday lunch complete with HUGE slices of cherry cheesecake for dessert. It was awesome.

2. Today- Helped some friends move into their new house. I'm glad to help, though I HATE moving, and the humidity today was so horrendous we were all literally dripping sweat the entire time. Also, one of their cats freaked and bolted out an open door at their old house, where they will no be spending the night as of right now, so I'm stressed over them finding her.

3. Now- I'm collapsed in my desk chair and wondering if 6 PM is too early to go to bed. Okay, yeah, I guess it is.

1. Found (probably) the first egg from this year's batch of chicks.

2. Finally bought a lawnmower so I don't have to mow with a scythe again.

3. Rented another garden (our third not counting our immediate neighbors' pasture) for our farm. We are officially a distributed enterprise now.

1. Just returned from a tea party my Best Woman threw for us. It was a dress-up party, not a bridal shower: an excuse to put on our fanciest togs and drink prosecco or sparkling cider and eat fancy little nibbles and cake. Very small, very sweet, and made me feel very loved.

2. Cannot believe how loving and happy and emotionally generous our family and friends have been. I am quite overwhelmed.

3. My sister made a big gorgeous cake (pound cake w/ macerated strawberries and apricot puree, and buttercream frosting), and I was sent home with the leftovers. Mmmm, cake.

1. Thisended today. It was determined, after listening to music just slightly louder than a jet landing on the roof for twelve hours straight, that I will be going camping this weekend next year.

2. I'm meeting with my academic adviser tomorrow to make my schedule. Keep your fingers crossed for me that there will be room in the good ones!

3. I was going to make a star trek corset for the movie premiere, but never got a chance since I had actual orders to work on at the time. I still have the stuff for it, but now wonder where I would ever wear it. I might just make it anyways.

1. The local college has its commencement this weekend, so I've been spending most of the weekend hiding inside with occasional brief runs out for supplies. Stupid graduation parties.

2. I woke up this morning with an inexplicably strong craving for red beans and rice, so that's what we had for dinner. I've never made red beans and rice before, so I used just a totally basic recipe, but it turned out pretty well. Also made a side salad with baby lettuce and Avignon radishes (which I'd never heard of before; spicy and good) from the farmers' market.

3. I need to find a yoga teacher I like in this area. I've been going to the gym, which is good, but I'm feeling all stiff and sore and inflexible, which is bad.
