Name your celebrity crush. Now, and/or when you were 14.

Now: George Clooney (swoon!)
14: Donny Osmond (sigh!)

Donny still looks hot. Probably even more so than when he was 16.

well, I haven't had a celeb crush in years and years but Star Trek did a number on me, so here's mine:

John Cusack.

Hugh Jackman. Hugh Laurie. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

When I was 14 I had an odd crush on Einstein (from reading his quotes). Now, Hugh Jackman makes me tingle. I've gone from brains to meat.

14. Don Johnson, Andrew McCarthy

Now; Colin Firth, Jason Statham, Daniel Craig
posted by LoriFLA 25 May | 16:32
At 14, I primarily wanted Shakespeare. But also Prince William, Paul Rudd, Nicholas Farrell, and Christian Bale. All of these are still applicable.

Not a celebrity exactly, but I also had a major thing at that age for the son of Mr. McFeely, who was in my social studies class.

14: Paul Stanley.

Now (and for the last five years): Tamoh Penikett.

Then: Alyssa Milano.
Now: Alyssa Milano.

Then: Dana Delaney and Staci Keanan (She looked just like the neighbor girl whose overprotective father would hardly ever let her out of the house).

Now: Diane Kruger and Chan Marshall (swoon).
posted by chillmost 25 May | 16:52
14: Roger Taylor and Simon LeBon from Duran Duran, Rick Springfield, Leif Garrett, Sean Connery (yes, at 14), Harrison Ford.

Now: Zach Quinto, Colin Firth, Daniel Craig, Karl Urban, Hugh Laurie, Angelina Jolie, Jodie Foster, Gillian Anderson, Janeane Garofalo.

14: Elijah Wood or Taylor Hanson, can't remember which.

Now: I think RPatz is pretty cute.

When I was a teenager, I was in love with Tom Cruise. Thank goodness my fantasies about marrying him didn't come true, since he turned into a total weirdo.

I can't think of anyone I have a crush on now (even though I think plenty of celebrities are very yummy), and that makes me feel old and sad...

*rushes off to start crushing on someone*

14: Mad Love-era Pixie-cut still kinda crazy Drew Barrymore.

Now: I honestly have no idea.
posted by ufez 25 May | 18:05
14: River Phoenix
now: Christian Bale? I guess?
posted by gaspode 25 May | 18:35
Oh my god. Whatever kind of foundation garment did they make poor Lynda Carter wear? I hadn't seen her in ages and didn't remember such a distorted figure on her.
posted by Miko 25 May | 18:40
14: Erin Gray.
Bonus secondary obsession: obscure Bond girl Béatrice Libert (not, apparently, the Belgian poet).
Today: Well, I'm too old for Keira Knightley, but Kate Winslet will do. Emma Thompson, Laura Linney, Jodie Foster, and Holly Hunter are pretty well up there too. Oh, I suppose I am quite admiring of Linda Hamilton and Katee Sackhoff. At least they're not all genre.
posted by dhartung 25 May | 19:06
Miko: I don't know, but Lynda carter and Catherine bach are the women that made me realize that I liked women.

(It was the 70s. Silly headbands were not a dealbreaker back then.)

And my parents thought I was into tennis. Heh! Not really.

As for today- like Ardiril said, celebrity itself kinda grosses me out, at least the way it's presented. I think I preferred the days when people got famous for a reason.

Let's see, I was 14 in 1978 which would mean Debbie Harry.

I can't think of anyone now, they're all such plastic mannequin people now.

At 14: My babysitter.
Now: Our babysitter.

farthest back: Haley Mills from the Parent Trap movie (7 years old).

a little closer in: at 14, it was all Stevie Nicks, all the time. I used to fantasize she'd be browsing in the Metaphysics section of our local indie bookstore and I'd make her smile or something.

Now (any given day this rotates): Stockard Channing, Donna Brazille, Amy Poehler, Lily Tomlin, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlet Johansen, Alfre Woodard, Queen Latifah, I could go on....

... and Barack Hussein Obama.

I have no idea what was on my mind when I was 14 (well... hm... yeah I do but I have no idea what people might have been on my mind) and I don't know about 'crush' but certainly interesting:
Netta Skog
Meiju Enho
I don't know what her name is but she looks like fun.

14: Can't remember, because I wasn't that much of a media watcher. I think I ended up crushing on whomever my sister crushed on, but not exactly because I didn't want to copy her.

Now? Wil Wheaton, Jonathan Coulton, Hugh Jackman, John Barrowman, Hugh Laurie. So many crush-worthy men! Women? Hmm... Lucy Lawless. I think that's it for women.
posted by TrishaLynn 25 May | 21:04
Now:Rafi Nadal-does he count?
Then: (Freddie Mercury) yeah, I know...

(They're all people I find captiving / magnetic / can't take my eyes off when they're performing. Also Anette - her photos look like someone I would cross the street to avoid but on stage is a different story.)

It's funny, because it never occurred to me that he might not be into chicks, but now whenever I see "Wake Me Up Before You GoGo", I realize what a huge fricking flamer the boy was/is. I never saw it, I was so blinded by love.
posted by msali 26 May | 08:34
Then: Chad Lowe, Rob Lowe's little brother. Because having a crush on Rob Lowe was too obvious.
Now: Barack Obama, hands down. Rowr.
