Fast-paced time-wasting word game! So freaking addictive.[More:]

The most I've gotten is 585, which I'm sure will be surpassed almost immediately by one of you smart bunnies, but I still was pleased with myself.
I can barely break 300...Stuff like this makes me feel like Lisa Simpson when she meets that smart girl. The one who's dad comes up with the anagram for Alec Guiness? Remember? Genuine Class? Anyway, yeah, I"m a dumb guy with games like this!

Here's a ball. Perhaps you'd like to play with it.

Seriously, I only got 585 after playing it incessantly for three days.

Whuffles to you, my dear!

Woohoo! A ball!

(which, by the way, is JUST the sort of rollicking four letter word I can find when playing this game.)

Well, I've found that the 2x bonus you get for clearing the line-up is worth the points. So if you do "me" or "or" or "an" it's totally worth the consequent feeling of being unimaginative.

Ooh, this is fun. Got 826 my first game, but that was with a 205-point word (zenith 39 Points +2.5x Word Length. +2.1x Multiplier). I'm a *huge* Scrabble geek, though, so I think I can do better.

Unfortunately, until it starts raining, I have to go out and cut tree limbs. I'll play again this evening.

826?! Man, I'm worthless.

"Not in the dictionary"... FUCK YOU WHICH DICTIONARY???

posted by Meatbomb 24 May | 16:44
Yeah, the dictionary needs some work.
posted by Specklet 24 May | 17:09
Hrm. 647, but I got stressed as soon as there were more than 5 or so letters there.

I get better with each game, but still haven't broken [redacted due to embarrassment]. I suck at remembering all those two and three letter words like qua. Got 50 points for zag, so that was nice. The last game kept throwing me tons of "i" or lots of constants. I hate this game.

*goes back to playing game*

Observations: (1) Fun (2) Too much Joss has made me believe you can append a 'y' to anything; their dictionary doesn't agree (3) I almost threw my keyboard out the window when I had 'vixens' and made a typo and got penalized for it instead.

976 on a round where I got 'quarto' and 'molting'.
posted by Wolfdog 24 May | 18:14
argh I can't break 600. I'm too tempted by the short words or else I panic and time out when it gets too crowded....

# +422: joist. 62 Points +2.0x Word Length. +1.7x Multiplier. +2.0x Clean Slate.

Nice.

But "arab" not in the dictionary??
posted by Stewriffic 24 May | 19:01
Okay, I've played about ten more times and only bested my original score once, with an 891. It's gotten to the point to where if I miss a letter or ruin the multiplier, I'll just junk the game and start over.
posted by ufez 24 May | 19:21
Hey, did everyone see my ball?
posted by richat 24 May | 19:22
Last game before dinner: 959.
# +435: quill. 64 Points +2.0x Word Length. +1.7x Multiplier. +2.0x Clean Slate.

Crappy thing is, just as soon as I cleaned the slate with 'quill', the next tile was an 'S'.

Also, curse you, Specklet for bringing this into our collective lives.

I'm not posting my score because it sucks. I'm tickled to report that it accepted "doob" as a word, though.

Oh, wait, no it didn't. It dinged me for that one being not in the dictionary. Damn.

I got 556 my first game... lots of little words. I nearly cleared every single letter though; I ran out of time at the very end, sitting there with a "t-h-a" already typed in, waiting for another letter to drop - then realized that there were no more, and before I could finish changing that to "hat" it was over.

Started playing this a couple weeks ago when it showed up on Mefi. Great game, and it's had a few finesse additions since then. HEre I go: 615! It is totally addicting.

Jeremy's Iron.

561 on my first playthrough, I'll surely be devoting more time to this once I beat level 17 on Crush the Castle.

Hey richat, toss that ball over here.

Woo, 1004.
posted by gaspode 25 May | 19:43
677. The trick seems to be to not spell stuff wrong and to make sure your last word is a clean slate.
posted by jessamyn 25 May | 22:01
I am wondering about strategy for this one - because the multiplier goes up for each legal word that you play, it almost makes sense to play very short words at the beginning and save your letters for when you have racked up a big multiplier. If you can think fast enough to do that.

I am also wondering about the trade-off between getting a clean slate with a short word and maybe getting a longer word. Have to think about that more.

I think it over-penalizes you for typos though, geez.
