Under "webcomics", the reader on my Google lists XKCD, Dinosaur Comics. Partially Clips and Basic Instructions. Please add to this list, while maintaining the high standards we have come to expect.
Questionable Content.

Is this the thread where we call Dinosaur Comics overhyped? Also, in before Meh-chewood.

I second QC. I also read Penny Arcade sometimes, but I wouldn't recommend that. I've been getting into Cyanide and Happiness lately (which can be really hit or really miss). And that's saying a lot, because I haven't added a new comic in a while. Dresden Codak updates infrequently, but has nerdly goodness while occasionally hearkening back to A Lesson Is Learned But the Damage Is Irreversible. Also Bunnycomic!

I like :

Penny Arcade
Bunny

btw. This has to be the best comic I've seen this year. I now cannot look at political comics in newspapers without looking for the pterodactyl.

Oh - Bugger you Eideteker for posting exactly what I wanted to say in the interim period between me starting to say it and getting the links.

*shakes fist angrily*

Octopus Pie.
Anders Loves Maria.

Dar
Girls with Slingshots
Hark! a vagrant!

Sheesh, here I was all prepared to recommend Cyanide & Happiness, when I realized that Eid had beaten me to it! I also find it hit and miss, but when it makes me laugh, it REALLY makes me laugh. I think it's drawn by more than one person perhaps. There are some by "Rob", others by "Kris" etc.

Won't help your RSS feed, but definitely look through the Men In Hats archive if you haven't already.

And folks in this thread tripping all over themselves to hate on it notwithstanding, Achewood brings lots and lots of pleasure to many people. It's definitely not for everyone, and I would never criticize someone for not being into it, but give it a shot if you haven't already. Onstad's back to updating it pretty regularly, but I would definitely recommend tearing through the archives first. (If not from the beginning, from "The Party")

On a closer inspection, Eideteker is the only one hating on Achewood, seanyboy and richat are shaking their fist at getting sniped on recommendations. My bust.

Also on closer inspection: These are loafers.

Cat and girl! Daisy Owl! Bad Gods!

I do not mind going "Meh" all over Achewood because a former friend claimed it was the *only* funny webcomic out there.

I'm on my phone, so I'd normally link this, but: Something Positive, Skin Horse, Family Man & Digger. The last has given me a new appreciation for wombats.

Not updated anymore but I liked Animals Have Problems Too- (scroll over for captions)

White Ninja- I love this, especially in batches of reading a few at a time.

Indietits- by the same guy as QC, not updated anymore but worth a look if you like foul-mouthed birds.

The Perry Bible Fellowship- not Christian, not for everyone, but sometimes hilarious

Order of the Stick and Looking for Group, if you're a D&D nerd like me. I also just started reading Questionable Content.

OK, I'm going to separate these out:

Generally one-off strips, some storylines

Hark, a Vagrant! is what all the hip history buffs are reading. Also, people who have a good sense of humor.

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal is hilarious. Much, much funnier than xkcd. It's sort of naughty so it may not appeal to everyone.

Pictures for Sad Children is delightfully non-sequitorial. Yes, I made up a word.

60 ways to leave your mother (alone) is beautifully drawn. The archives are short and you can just start at the current storyline if desired

I find Ctrl+Alt+Del to be very funny for a gamer comic. It becomes more polished all the time.

I enjoy Something Positive, and the archive is a good timewaster.

PHD (Piled Higher and Deeper) Comics are also really funny. Mostly one-offs although there is character development.

I don't know if you're into diary comics, but Ellerbisms is really well-drawn.

Story Comics that require some archive reading

I like Achewood but only after I read the whole damn archive. That took awhile.

Unfortunately Anders Loves Maria is coming to an end. I look forward to Renee's next project.

The Abominable Charles Christopher is a stunning comic with a (relatively) short archive. Well worth it for the incredible art Karl produces every week.

Templar, AZ is set in some bizarro dimension that I want to live in.

Snowflakes just started up and although it's intentionally PG-rated, I like it quite a lot.

Scary Go Round - you can just start at the current storyline as they do backstory as they go. The archives have some incredible stories in them.

Seconding Giants in the Playground, although archives are a must-read. It's like the longest D&D campaign ever.

Girl Genius. I love the artwork and the attention to background detail.

FreakAngels just started Vol.2, so you can start there. It only comes out once a week so it's a good way to spend a boring Friday at work.

That wasn't my whole reading list - I left out some of the ones already mentioned and some that aren't updating regularly, like We The Robots

Oh! And I forgot that the Good Ship Chronicles just started up after a long hiatus. A great science-fiction plot and excellent artwork.

Not a comic per se, but I'm a longtime fan of Exploding Dog. RSS feed

Yehuda Moon and the Kickstand Cyclery is a pretty well done daily strip that's in hiatus right now but coming back in a month or so.

The ones I have that no-one's mentioned yet:

Amazing Superpowers
Buttersafe - highly absurdist and off-the-wall
Circle vs. Square - it's got a continuing story, btw
indexed
Simulated Comic Product - pretty excellent, all around
Sin Titulo - also has an ongoing story, you have to read from the start for it to make any sense. Sort of a creepy/eerie vibe to it.
Thinkin' Lincoln

Also, seconding Daisy Owl

Wait, nobody's recommended A Softer World yet? I love A Softer World nearly as much as I love xkcd. So delicious, and so wrong.
posted by Fuzzbean 20 May | 16:37
Did you know that Kate Beaton from Hark! A Vagrant! and the kids from A Softer World like, live together? It's like peanut butter and chocolate.
posted by muddgirl 20 May | 17:06
Fuzzbean, (which I accidentally types as "fussbean" prior to correcting!) I am really enjoying A Softer World while sitting here waiting for some data to copy (which is my version of "it's compiling!)
posted by richat 20 May | 17:09
And muddgirl: she's dating john campbell from pictures of sad children!!

I squee'd!
posted by jonathanstrange 21 May | 09:18
Oh yeah, I forgot about that!

It's too much nerdy indie comic goodness to handle!
