"How I sued a craigslist sex troll" Jason Fortuny, whose online stunt ruined many lives, has been fined $74K. (Some adult subject matter, but no obscene images in this link. The "nearly 100 of the original photos" link two-thirds of the way down the page is decidedly NSFW)
And now Craigslist is charging for and limiting their adult services section. This country is SO friggin' Puritan!!!

Good. What a fucking douchebag.

He is a douche, but to be fair, a lot of dudes on craigslist are off the fucking wall. A friend's mom got several dick pics when she posted to "strictly platonic" for a golf buddy. I got two when I posted a bunch of too-big clothes for sale in a lot. Sending them to the fake ad he posted makes sense (well, as much as sending a stranger a photo of your genitals ever makes sense), but it seems to be an almost default response on there no matter what the category or ad.

The fact that they got Fortuny on copyright and bad lawyering says everything you need to know.

The guys a douche, but he shouldn't be $70000+ in the hole because he "published a copyrighted photo". That's wrong.

I know, don't get me started about the time I was looking for a rooster to make an authentic French wine stew. All I did was post that I was looking for a cock and I got nothing but penises.

Yeah, that's totally fair. The people who were fired or had destroyed relationships deserved to have their lives ruined because some other Craigslisters are jerks. The victims were basically asking for it by using the same web site.

That's crazy.

No, he should be horsewhipped because he ruined some folks lives for a stupid, unfunny "lulzy" prank. Frankly, he's lucky all he got was sued.

I never said what he did was right. The second part of my statement was more in response to the limiting and removal of some of their adult section. I honestly do think craigslist eliminating some of their sex ads will make the site stronger in other respects. My old work blocked the whole domain as "pornographic/adult content," so I couldn't even, say, look for a car on my lunch or whatever. And the plethora of porn responses to non-porn ads will most likely diminish if people aren't on there looking for sex to begin with.

Didn't the guy get fired because the pic he sent of himself jerking off was taken at his desk at work and used his work email? Yeah, it sucks that this dude decided to expose him for a laugh, and he shouldn't have, but I can't help but think someone who decides that's an OK thing to do has bigger problems, and would have been fired eventually. Maybe I'm cold. I guess so.

I honestly can't find a ton of sympathy in me for the guys whose wives or girlfriends found out they were cheating because of this. Having been on the other side of that equation I can only think of how many diseases they're bringing home. Having an affair with one person is bad, but complete strangers met off the internet for casual sex just seems to ratchet up the STD factor by a huge degree.
