I have come to the conclusion that the current generation of college age Americans were not hit enough as children. Let's all do what we can to remedy this situation.
Try it, old man.

Yeah, I'm an out-of-shape 50-something woman with a painfully high Blue Cross deductible. You want me to go around slapping college age kids? I'll pass. You go first.

I'll build the time machine if someone else will compile the list of recent college grads' home addresses in 1995.

I think if you change "hit" to "spank," you might get more takers.

I, for one, would be happy to do my part and spank a college men's lacrosse team. Name the day, my friend, and line 'em up.

My friend Iggy from Spain was telling me about when he was first an exchange student in LA, his English shaky to say the least, he was out with some friends who were talking about teasing their siblings, and he boldly offered, "Oh yeah, my brothers and I used to molest my sister all the time."

Half his friends turned red and got mad, and the other half (the half who knew Spanish) started laughing and explaining the ridiculously easy and potentially grievous language error to the angry Americanos.

I volunteer to help rmless2 with spankings for the lacrosse team. If she can manage that on her own, I could get going with the soccer, baseball, football or rugby teams. Or golf, fencing, archery, ballet dancing, whatever! I will whip those men into shape.

I have an unlikely good acquantiance in his sixties who was born and raised in England, bording school and the whole nine, RAF, and ended up somehow a local cop here. Rose up through the ranks, and became a spokesperson sort for the department before he retired. Saw him tonight and he told a story about giving talks to HS kids here about how there IS a line between discipline and abuse, but the gap we put between the two is steadily shrinking. He got XX whippings in boarding school for fighting, and turned out an upstanding citizen on the side of the law. Today that'd be considered abuse, but he didn't think it was.

I'm against this suggestion. As far as I can tell, not beating your children has had a positive effect on society.

Ooh, ooh, can I spank the cheerleaders? Am I too late? Where do I sign up? I think some of them have probably been very naughty.

I'll spank the sorority girls, but I'm willing to share cuz that would be a neverending job.

I think this would be called internalizing oppression, though. A huge component of being abused is coming to believe that one deserved to be abused; when the abuse is socially sanctioned, it's even easier to believe that one deserved it, because few people speak out against it. And it's even easier on top of that to come to believe that one deserved it if the abuse happened during childhood, because children are very naturally egocentric and believe that everything happens because of something they did.

And so to protect one's own sanity, the mind morphs the abuse into some sort of character-building enterprise, a show of compassion or love rather than evidence of hatred and power-mongering.

Or, in other words, what seanyboy said.

Why don't you just tell them to get off your lawn?

Much easier and probably fewer legal repercussions as well.

What seanyboy said. My father hit me, and look how I turned out.

I've come to the conclusion that, short of neglect or abuse, there's not much a parent to do to fuck up their children (all the can do is fuck up their relationship with their children). Personally, I put spanking on the side of abuse. How can we expect our children to respect physical boundaries if we don't respect theirs?

Sorry to put a damper on the thread, though. Feel free to continue with the cheerleader fantasies.

Also, Exit to Eden taught me that kids who get spanked turn into secret submissive masochists. Not that there's anything wrong with that :)

Actually, it's the end of the semester and I'm simply sick of spoiled NYU brats showing up with books covered in so much yellow highlighter that they could be used as fucking lanterns who get all indignant when we don't want to buy them. They all act like nobody's ever said 'No,' to them before.
