I knew any attempts at vegetable growing on my part in our current location were doomed when not only did the deer keep showing up, but this spring, I saw a bunny loitering about.
Oh, well--I'd been meaning to support the local farmers' market anyway...
Awww :)... We discovered a crop of baby bunnies several years ago when my husband was burning a brush pile. After the fire got going, several bunnies (not much bigger than the ones in the article, but their eyes were open and they could run) went scampering in all directions. We felt so guilt-ridden, even more so when my husband spotted one little bunny who hadn't run very far.
We didn't know if it was dying, or sickened by smoke inhalation, or just parayzed with fear, but my husband scooped it up and we ran inside with it, looking it over to make sure it wasn't injured. Then we wrapped it loosely in a soft towel and made it a nest of grass in a shoebox. By the next morning, it was still alive and was munching on the grass. We name it Phoenix and kept it until it was old enough to survive on its own, trying to be careful to not over-tame it.
We've had domestic bunnies over the years, and currently have three, but I always think about Phoenix when Spring rolls around and the wild bunnies start appearing in the yard.
