Meanwhile - in my writing class I apparently know everyone in the whole wide world.[More:]

We were reading a blog article last week, which had comments included in one of our readers, and there was a few comments by language hat! I said - I know him!

Then today - we were talking about someone or another, and one of the girls in my class mentions a radio show she'd heard a couple of weeks before - This American Life featuring our very own TrishaLynn! I said - I know her!

Then they mentioned something about going to see the cadavers at Melbourne Uni - and I mentioned how my grandfather ended up as a cadaver there - and maybe they'd see him.

In conclusion, mefites are awesome, and I know a lot of people (even if only on the interwebs).
It's a small, hypertexted world afterall!

I have this experience often - oftener the longer I've been on MeFi (especially). During most weeks I'll hear some mention of something on NPR, or read something in the news, or watch something on TV, and have this "s/he's a MeFite!" or "a MeFite lives there/is involved with that" moment. In a weird way I do feel like I know everyone in the world - not literally, but I feel there are personal and meaningful connections between me and these otherwise faceless entities because of MeFi.

You do realise, don't you, that we are just imaginary people from the internet. None of us actually exists.

It's true. We haven't existed for ages. We're just shadows of our former selves trapped in the circuitry that leads either here or there.

We're not here. Haven't you heard? We're all on Twitter.

I'm so now curious as to what your classmate said about the show. The gamut of reactions I'm getting is interesting, with the most gratifying being how all of my friends loved the part where I referenced Godwin's Law and how I reacted to its "bring out."

Miko: I feel there are personal and meaningful connections between me and these otherwise faceless entities because of MeFi.

I actualy rather think of it like some of the people whose lives I read about and know here are pretty darn interesting and it's great to see so many of us active in the world.
