I'd think a progressive school like UCLA would have some sort of notches on the walls so the squirrels and other wildlife would not have to mess with stuff like this.
Highways have passways for wildlife between barriers, streams have them for the Salmon, etc. Saw this yesterday and it seems a little too conservative for a Cali school; especially UCLA, to have barriers on campus like this.
Lunch on a near daily basis is a bike ride to the park; and I have a great deal of ?peace? getting to know the squirrels there. Three stand out and they all but skip as they follow me accross the field. A red-bellied female, a male with 1/2 a tail, and an all black female. My special squirrel lunchfriends.
They will eat peanuts first above all else; but they will also eat other nuts. Acorns frustrate them; they usually take them off and bury them. Perhaps the soil moisture softens the shell for later consumption. They also prefer apples over bananananasas, and although they will eat strawberries, oranges, pears, nectarines, and cherries; they always go for the peanuts first.
I love the squirrel; and to see such abusage metered out by UCLA with farking concrete disgusts me. C'mon UCLA. Enviroment. I know it is a new topic for much of the nation; but UCLA? Hello?
To me, this is more than a video. This is blatant anti-squirrel discrimination; and I really don't care for it. To know the squirrel is to love the squirrel, to love the squirrel is to defend the squirrel. What if that baby squirrel would have injured itself? Damn you pithy UCLA, damn you!
OK buzzman, seriously. I love squirrels as much as the next person but this is a video showing maybe 5 minutes in the life of these squirrels. If those people hadn't come along to help they would have figured something out. I've visited many southern California campuses with concrete walls and I've never seen some sort of squirrel depopulation problem due to poor squirrels who aren't able to jump up a wall.
Also, I think you must be one of the first people to ever call UCLA a progressive school.
(If I just missed the joke then I pre-emptively apologize and call for my own bannination).
Yeah, my day in the snark. I wasn't being Youtubey; eh, just being ?me?. I liked the vid and I found it (egh) cute. Perhaps a word I would type and have probably not said for several years. Cute.
