The Star Wars Holiday Special - Behind the Scenes (Vanity Fair)
While flipping through a book of production stills, Vilanch says, the Star Wars creator came across a particularly provocative-looking creature. "Lucas, who had been pretty stolid the whole time, turned to me and said: ‘Oh yes, we call him C*ntface.’"
Whoa. Good link. I've seen the whole thing, but don't know much about the behind-the-scenes stuff.

I don't think it's that much worse than "Attack of the Clones" though...

Holy shit. I wonder if I watched this? I'd be surprised if I didn't. I really want to see it now.

Major awesomeness:

The biggest joke was Jefferson Starship. By the end of 1978, they were making Journey sound good. The soundtrack featuring "What Can You Get a Wookiee for Christmas (When He Already Owns a Comb?)".

I really want to see it now.

It's undeniably painful. How painful? Reflect that Lucas defends Jar Jar Binks to this day, that he put a gay lavender Hutt who speaks -- in English, mind you -- like Truman Capote after a massive stroke into his Clone Wars movie, and yet he refuses to publicly discuss this show at all. That's how bad the holiday special is.

So yeah, I'd recommend you see it. It's one of those things you can't un-see, like "Ilsa: She-Wolf of the SS" or goatse.

The whole thing is on Google Video and like Battlefield Earth is something everyone should experience once. While drunk. Preferably with the Rifftrax to help ease the pain.

(I actually saw this when it aired. Like the Banana Splits Show it was one of those childhood events where I'd treasure meeting other kids who had also seen it, thus convincing me it wasn't some sort of insane hallucination.)

...it wasn't some sort of insane hallucination

I think this is my favorite part of the whole phenomenon. So many of us saw it as kids and, until the internet came along, many of us were convinced that we just invented the whole thing in our minds. But then we eventually all found out that WE ARE NOT ALONE, as if it's a support group waiting to take us in.

I think I was in my late 20s before I found out that I hadn't dreamed it or invented a false memory. It was like recovering a suppressed memory on some bad soap opera.

I saw it maybe fifteen years ago in school. My roommate never believed me until I got a copy of my own and made him watch. I don't think he's ever fully forgiven me.

I want my boyfriend to see it, but I think half an hour in with no dialogue besides wookie grunts he may dump me.
