I iz on teh radioh!!! Well, maybe.

Answered the phone this afternoon, and it was a call from some guy claiming to be Pedro, who had just flown in from overseas and just checked into to his hotel and deperately needed a massage. Did I have any appointments this afternoon? →[More:]

The call came thru with Caller ID Unknown, which frequently means "Telemarketer with odd accent" so I was already on the defensive when I answered the call. Something clearly wasn't right, especially with the accent. While I was checking my diary for availibility, Pedro starts coughing, sniffling & sneezing. I tell him I can see him at 2pm, and ask if he is OK as she sounds quite unwell. He asks if my office is close the city, as he has an appointment at the Mexican embassy at 4pm. I tell him I have no time for radio pranks & hang up. (the conversation was a bit more drawn out that out, but that's the gist)

A few minutes later, another Caller ID Unknown call comes through, and lo & behold, it's a radio host apolosing for "wasting my time" and asking for permission to use my call on their show.

I didn't think I made too big an idiot of myself, so I gave permission to use the call. My name wasn't mentioned, but my business name & location was (hey! free advertising!)

The guy said they'd called several massage therapists around town, and I was the first one to have not made an appointment, which is a bit mind boggling. Maybe the others just went along with the joke? Or maybe he was lying to me to make me think I was smart as he said I was the only one apparently up to date with current world affairs.

I hate practical joke shows, they make me cringe with embarrassment. I often wonder how people fall for the ridiculous scenarios, so I was quite chuffed I picked my own encounter with one as being bullshit straight off the bat, even though I wasted several minutes confirming it.
I also repeated back his scenatio at one point ("so Pedro, you've just flown in from Mexico and need a massage before your appointment at the Mexican embassy at 4pm") for the benefit of the chiropractor who had come out to recepetion and started laughing at me.

I have a feeling they won't use my call, as I probably wasn't funny enough for them, but I'm starting to worry that they will use it and mock the crap out of me.

What really takes the cake though is that I googled the name of the guy, to find what station & what time his show is on, and it looks like he does the goddam breakfast show, so if I want to hear if my call is played, I'll have to get up at 7am!
