PORTLAND BUNNIES! LEND ME YOUR (LONG) EARS! [More:] Mom's birthday is on Mother's Day this year, so I am thinking about taking her to Portland for Girlie Weekend(from Seattle via the train, so no car) and I am looking for some suggestions for fun things to do. Powell's is an absolute must, so much so I want to make sure our hotel is within walking distance of "Book Mecca". So, any interesting sites to see or places to go in or near the Pearl/Downtown/Old Town districts? Especially things that appeal to sort-of-hip 62 year old?

The Ace Hotel has a photobooth in the lobby, I like pastrami at Kenny & Zuke's, and I bought my mattress at Macy's. Now you know pretty much everything I know about downtown.

Take her to Cargo: 380 NW 13th Avenue. Fun to walk around, they have one of everything in terms of Asian imports. See also: Hawthorne distric in SE. Take the #14 bus. See also: Chinese Gardens in Old Town. Small but really beautiful.

I miss Portland.

The MAX that goes eventually to the airport (don't know the name of the line) stops at saturday market. If it's a nice day, a stroll by the river is great. . even going onto the Steel Bridge.

Um, depending on HOW with it . .. Spartacus, up Burnside a few blocks from Powell's, is an interesting browse.

Seconding Voodoo Doughnuts, and Stumptown a few doors down.

Saturday Market is within walking distance of Powell's, no need to take MAX unless you're tired of walking. The farmers' market up by PSU is also wonderful.
