17 April 2009

Ow. The good news: Percocet. The bad news: I can't take it yet. The bottom line: Don't know, yet. I've had a persistant pain in my left kidney region (the one that was damaged two years ago) for about 24 hours, now. There is, according to my doctor, a "moderate" amount of blood in my urine. They ordered blood tests stat, but I haven't heard anything back, yet. I have a CT scan at 4:30. So meantime, I get to sit here and try not to think about it. Thanks for letting me whine. Ow.
Crap. I borked up the More Inside. If anybody with "the power" wants to do some minor surgery, feel free.

Aw, Flo, hope it feels better soon, and that it's nothing serious.

I also don't thing that you had too much on the outside, so I don't think you borked anything at all. And hopefully, especially, not a kidney.

Youch! It sounds like you absolutely should not have anything more inside, so don't worry. Sending healing thoughts your way!

So meantime, I get to sit here and try not to think about it.

You know what helps not to think about things? Uh, I don't really know, but bitching ferociously about them always helps me muddle through. If it helps you, too, unload it here!

Yeah, fingers crossed and spare kidney at the ready, just in case. Good luck with the relaxation and not-thinking-about-it!

Thinking about what?

Nothing! NOthing to think of at all here! Move along...

Who did what to whom, now?

It was the professor, in the study, with a candlestick!

In my childhood, we enlivened family games of Clue by brandishing the "secret file" at each other and bellowing "J'accuse!" at the top of our lungs.

Sweet.

And thanks, everybody. You helped.

Nah, we haven't helped 'til milk comes out your nose.

Especially if you aren't drinking milk at the time.

Well, if it's all fucked up you've always got another one.

(Hope you feel better soon.)

I was only little at the time, a mere monkey copying my older siblings. When I first learned about Emile Zola, I disturbed the entire classroom by bursting out laughing.

I got in troubbbb-bbbbble!

I hope everything turns out well. All I can do is offer whuffles and well-wishes. *whuffles Flo on the cheekbone, murmurs soothing things*

Aww, damn, I'm sorry to hear about your health problems. Here's hoping you're feeling a lot better real soon.

Oof, that's rough. Hope it feels better soon.

Argh, that's fucked up. Hope you're back in the flow soon!

You can't have the Percocet until after the CT? Bastards. I say you kidney punch them until they let you. It's only fair.
posted by deborah 17 April | 19:30
Hope the CT Scan went ok and that you have some results by now. And that you finally got to take the Percocet.
posted by Twiggy 17 April | 19:53
If Flo's taking the Percocet, his typing should be about like mine.

((whuffles))

Mmmmm... Percocet. It wasn't the CT itself keeping me from the pills, it was that I thought I was going to have to drive myself there. But my wife got home early, so I got to take the Percocet after all. The pain hasn't really gone away, but I can at least forget about it from time to time. I probably won't get any results from the CT scan and blood tests until Monday, but at least I'll have some relief from the pain while I wait.

Thanks again for your well wishes and for letting me vent. It helped and I really appreciate you all.

My best wishes. I just today got good news on my kidney ultrasound. I wish you the same, or better, experience of relief.

Good luck flo. I left the post without a more inside. Seems Ok to me. Percocet never does anything for me.Happy it's helped you some.

Best wishes and all that. I hope you find out what's wrong and that whatever is wrong is easy to fix up.

Update: Apparently, I have a 7mm kidney stone in my lower left pole collecting system. Kidney functions are fine. So, no worries. Unpleasant, but not dangerous.
posted by It's Raining Florence Henderson 18 April | 18:53
Phew, and ow. Thanks for letting us know -- I'm glad to hear it's not dangerous, and sending sympathy for your pain.
posted by Elsa 18 April | 19:25
This is great news, IRFH. I hope the unpleasantness doesn't last too much longer. Good luck.
posted by LoriFLA 18 April | 23:36
Oddly enough, I was hoping it was only a kidney stone (I've had three). Painful, but easy enough to deal with. Are they going to let you pass it or zap it?
posted by deborah 19 April | 11:50
I'm with you, deborah. I was hoping it was a kidney stone, too. The diagnosis was a huge relief. Unfortunately, since this all came up over the weekend, I haven't seen my real doctor, yet, and I'll need to get a referal for an urologist. I've done a little reading online, though, and it sounds to me like a 7mm stone is unlikely to pass on its own, so I'm guessing they'll be zapping me. It's most likely an uric acid crystal, since I've had two recent gout attacks. Luckily, I've already started on Allopurinol to lower my uric acid levels, so I should be good going forward.

The bad news is that I've started having problems with nausea related to the stone, and the Percocet has been really amplifying that. I've never had trouble tolerating Percocet before, but now it's making me vomit, so I've had to stop taking it, as I'll choose pain over nausea any day. Hopefully, I can get in to see my doctor tomorrow and get some anti nausea drugs so I don't have to choose the lesser of evils.

In the meantime, I'm just taking it easy.
