AskMecha: Facebook Sigh. I can't believe I am asking this. . . . So, I *thought* I had a person on my block list. Then, this morning, a comment this person makes on the wall of a mutual friend, shows up in my feed. [More:]So, I go to my block list, type in the name precisely as it shows up on the feed, get a three page list of "matches" (most of which barely contain letters from the name, but whatever), none of which appears to be this person. I went ahead and added the two likeliest possibilities to my block list, but that did not remove the comment from my feed.

So, I type in all the email addresses I know for this person, none of which shows up. How do I make sure this person never shows up in my feed again?

There are a handful of mutual friends, whom I will hide if necessary, but I'd prefer not to throw out babies and bathwater.
oops. my more inside is wrong.

I assume you can't see the person's picture? That makes it tough. Can you figure out which network they're in and block them from there?

I thought there was an option to not show wall items between people that aren't you? That's one thing that came with the software upgrade, and I don't like it. Don't need to see unsolicited "private" conversations between others.

It's funny, we're having almost the exact same conversation over on another board right now. Facebook lets you control what goes out from your profile, and not what comes in to your feed. Your feed depends on how your friends choose to publish from their profiles. So if Bobby wants all his wall conversations broadcasted, that's what you'll get. Unless you block Bobby altogether. But I don't want to block Bobby completely, I just want to block Bobby's annoying updates. Alas, Facebook has not yet gotten that sophisticated; in fact, it seems that the newest update was a step backwards in News Feed sophistication.

Well, I checked the mutual friend's list of friends, to try to block from there, but This Person is not on that list (which I would think means he has me blocked, but then why would I see his comment?). Of course, I feel like a 12-year-old, but sometimes, you don't want people showing up when you don't expect them.

And it was a Wall Post from this person you want to block that showed your News Feed? Or was it a comment by them on a status update from your friend?

This.

I guess I could be misunderstanding how blocking works, but I thought it meant anything that person puts out is not visible to you.

I've had blocked people send me mail in Facebook. Yuck. I ignored it, because this person has definitely been a bit stalker-ish, but I'd've thought that blocked people wouldn't be able to send you mail

Ah, I figured as much. I think Facebook design has spiralled out of control; stuff has changed so quickly and they aren't able to keep up dotting the I's and crossing the T's. I think they've left status comments out of privacy restrictions; probably not on purpose, just on accident as part of the madness that is their constant re-design.

Oh of course, TPS, it probably is some sort of after-effect of the change. I'll go searching for a feedback form.

Yeah, what's with the constant changes? I'm new to Facebook, but I can't get my head around how things work, because they change every time I refresh.
