Ardiril is SUCH a man. He not only fixed the DVD player...[More:]and he not only fixed the car's brake light, but he also WENT WITH ME to the knitting/fabric store, and NOT ONLY did not complain at all, but also ACTUALLY CONTRIBUTED TO the decisionmaking about the aforementioned fabric.

Aren't men like that great?
yes! ardiril is great, i am a fan.

Ardiril is great.

"Men like that," like what?

I heard that sometimes he even sits down to pee.

Maybe I'm misreading this and making mountains out of molehills, but I find the "Aren't men like that great?" thing a bit insulting. It's almost as if you are saying that men who are not "like that" are "not great".

note - I am "like that", if it makes a difference

see, the thing about metachat is I assume almost everything here is meant in a positive way.

see, the thing about metachat is that it can have snark, humor, sarcasm, and affection all in one post.

For what it's worth, I, too, thought it was meant in a positive way. I also think the reminders of the dangers of pigeonholing were meant positively, too. I mean it positively when I say it seems like one of those jokes made out of a serious thing like stereotypes, that don't come off as jokes to everyone, and that seem tone-deaf at best, in light of how extremely seriously snarky, humorous, sarcastic, and affectionate jokes about stereotypes are usually taken, here and elsewhere.

Melismata is a wonderful woman. Being with her makes me a very happy man whose only other real happiness over the last year came when I met my son's awesome girlfriend. With Melismata, I can say exactly what I am thinking and share thoughts that I would otherwise be too reserved to express. Also, she showed me the viola she wants, and she proceeded to play it cold even though that particular instrument is new to her and she does not yet know its quirks. That takes courage. I am looking forward with great anticipation to moving to Boston in June and the beautiful music we will make together.

My husband told me early on in our relationship that he would NEVER go into a fabric store with me. I have yet to visit one but when I do, it will sadly be alone.

Wait. There are men out there who wouldn't want to visit Mood? But Tim Gunn has been there!

I would be very sad if my future snuggle-wumpus would not be okay with ducking into whatever store struck my fancy if I agreed to go willingly into his/hers. Then again, if they didn't, they wouldn't be my snuggle-wumpus, would they?

Well since I do most of the shopping for the family, I have bought menstrual supplies for wife and daughter for years. . .I know from light to super-duty to winged. . .

So I'm more frigging sensitive than any of you other assholes. . .

Probably not if you kept referring to them as "snuggle-wumpus."

Obligatory ;)

For once I was NOT the last to know!

is a member of the Ardiril fan club and therefore on the mailing list ;)

So glad for you, bud, and for you Melismata, who I'll hopefully meet before very long. HUGE hugs to you both!

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words. Melismata and I are still in the cooing and wooing stage, and long distance at that. Over the next two months, I must get through a fairly arduous physical therapy regimen, and when I move to Boston, I will probably be some distance from the metropolitan area since I cannot afford much in rent. Also, to be fair to Melismata, she still has some very difficult choices to make before totally accepting someone with my handicaps into her life as a potential mate. She has had the good grace to give me the opportunity to prove to her that my virtues exceed my baggage, and for now, I cannot ask any more than that of her toward a commitment.

... but hot damn, I can't stop thinking about her.

oh, and Melismata (as there is no email in your profile): if I ever take a trip to Boston, I will take my viola with me and we will play duets. Deal? :)
posted by altolinguistic 09 April | 03:48
Much awesomeness and congratulations to the two of you!

Sorry I was a bit grouchy this morning - I didn't mean to come across that nasty - it was meant more as a general comment about the ways of the world than being aimed specifically at anyone. I can see it didn't read that way, though. My bad.

Ah, totally knew it!

You're both delightful and I loved having dinner with you at the wrong Legal Sea Foods. ;)

Please look me up any time.
