Disconnected→[More:]I'm just realizing the level of my addction. On vacay, no wireless.have mom's iphone but don't understand it so well. Obvs can't type either.
I want to go to #bunnies but can't figure out how. Also I Romanticize nephews' cuteness. They're not v cute. Lots of screeching. May have to escape to free wifi somewhere.
Stew, there are plenty of iPhone apps out there that will let you connect to IRC. The best-in-class is Colloquy, but it'll cost you $1.99. The only free one is called IRChon, but it hasn't gotten very good reviews from users.
I was a horrible internet addict in college and I'd get the shakes when I went home for the holidays (no wireless laptop at that point). After graduation I went cold turkey for awhile, forcing myself to go to the library to check email. It was painful, but I can totally live without the Internet for days now and it doesn't bother me.
:-) The shakes have gone. I think it's far more of a too-close-to-loud-family-no-escape situation than really caring too much about missing the intarwebs. And now I know where to go. WOO HOO!
I know how you feel. My parents live in rural Northern California. No cell phone service, no high speed internet, not even cable tv. It's like another world! Sometimes I can't believe that I grew up there.
Oh how shameful. I took the website and literature about this place at face value; in reality, I do have wireless. And I wasn't prompted to pay. I never even tried it.
Depending on relatives' internet is such a nuisance. My Verizon Voyager is quite handy and liberating, and the cell modem on the laptop covers all my other needs. I would be sick if I had to go back to seeking out wifi freespots. The great thing is when I move to Boston in June, I won't have to do a thing about transferring internet service; what I have now is universal.
I was without internet access this weekend from Saturday morning, due to British telecom inadvertently destroying a fibre optic cable that's used to provide service to various ISPs, mine included. I thought I'd miss it, but I didn't at all :-)
