I have the money for what I want. At the moment, I don't have the opportunity.

I want to move out of the South, into a house where I can play guitar without fussing neighbors, join a gym, and grow very old writing stories with lines like "I'm a man of simple tastes. I enjoy things like dynamite and gunpowder and gasoline..."

I got my Nissan Pathfinder last year so that's one thing off my list.

* An HDV camcorder that I can calculate HAOV for doing compositions.
* A kick-ass quad-core editing computer
* A new 52" TV
* A camera crane
* Maybe also a steadycam-type rig
* Would love to get a little Cirrus SR20 as a starter-plane (you need a license to fly those, right?)

Pontoon boat. One of those party-barge deals, y'know, where you just get blitzed and drive it around the lake all day.

Short-term, I would like to pay off what remains of my debt. And a cello. There are a lot of other little things I want (like a nice camera and some new clothes), but those are two things that I really do think would improve my quality of life and decrease my stress.

Long-term, some wooded acreage in a coastal mountain range where I can build a small home and dairy farm. Even though I have no idea if I'll ever marry or have children, I want to build a place where, if they want, my parents can live when they've grown old, and my sister and her husband or my cousins can bring their children and stay for a week in the summer or as long as they want. Being able to live that way of life and offer such a thing to the people I love would make me happier than anything in the world.

Alto flutes rock, Melismata, I totally support your wish. My viola (an 18th birthday present from family, quite a long time ago now) is still one of my greatest joys, so I wish you that too. I can't think of a better investment in happiness.

Thinking about this, many of my wants are taken care of, and I feel very grateful. Remaining wants, not necessarily monetary, not necessarily in order:

to be able to remain living in this house
road bike and somewhere safe and sheltered to store it
new oven (rest of kitchen can stay)
to be (one of) the best at my profession
child(ren)
pay off the mortgage
live abroad again

My big-ticket items are:
a down-payment on a house
a new refrigerator(Lord, do I hate my ancient, borrowed refrigerator!)
lots and lots of bookshelves
