OMG Kitty!!1!! The Spousal Unit and I were hiking on Tiger Mountain when she spotted the paw print in the mud. Very, very, very fresh.
→[More:]Sorry the pic is a bit blurred (blackberry camera and yes I should have taken several) but you get the idea. The house keys give an idea of scale. The print was about the size of my hand. Definitely a cougar.

It was raining but this spot was under a tree so the print had good detail. FYI, my boots did not sink into the mud nearly as far. On a dry day we might not have seen it at all.

I followed the tracks a few feet down the mountain, which was where we had just come from.

For all our outdoorsy friends here, this is why walking quietly in the wilderness is a bad idea. You might end up getting to know a predator in ways that don't often end well.
