I got the car Thanks for the advice everyone! The lower offer was accepted and I'm now the proud owner of a pretty darn nice Grand Am! (and I have pics!)
Kind of a lot, but I have to share... this is the nicest car I've ever owned. It drives like it's brand new. The owner's dad is a mechanic and the son used this car to learn to customize the inside and advertise his customization business. You can tell it was babied. And they don't do the interior justice... that red is as red as the outside.
Wow, that looks like a really nice car, except the steering wheel is on the wrong side.
Rarely in my life have I felt terror such as I did when I traveled to Ireland and started up my right-hand-drive rental car for the first time. Luckily for us it was straight highway driving early on, so I had time to get accustomed, but never in my life have I put so much thought into a right turn as I did that first one.
I suggest finding the a Pontiac Grand Am internet forum (there's bound to be one) and see if there are any special maintenance issues you should be aware of. The power of the internet is that you can find out all the cheats and hacks for the car online. It might be worth it to make sure the car has no Achilles heal.
Cool car, sorry, but I posted this on the wrong page. I love the red, black would be good too, and the stearing wheel looks like it's just begging to be driven--you go girl, Yeah!
Thanks, everyone. I'm really psyched. My best friend just took the radio from my old car (there's a nicer one in this car already), and it's out front to be towed off to the great car lot in the sky tomorrow morning. Then, off to the DMV to register this one and get it on the road!
I'm really excited since I was expecting to get a car that looked like it had been beaten with a sledgehammer for the money I had to spend. This one needs a couple new tires (which I can get tomorrow with the money I saved today!), but is otherwise in fantastic shape. I did some research on the model year and other than "it's not as nice to drive as the accord and camry in the same class" stuff it looks pretty solid. Most of the problems I saw listed around were for the pre-1995 transmission. A friend of mine has one from the same year or close to, and she loves hers. (and her mom was the original owner, so she knows the history).
My nephew got a Grand Am so he can schlep his gf and kid around, which his truck was not good for, and it broke down anyway. So far the Pontiac is holding together. Congrats!
(Grands Am?)
The Am stands for America, bub. (It's grander, at least originally, than the Trans Am[erica].) Pas de frenchy, mercy buckets!
