25 March 2009

Come in and share something good happening in your life [More:] I'm having a pretty shitty week so far. But here are a few things that have made my day brighter.

a) Dad is out of the hospital, sounding and feeling much better. yay! But he is not out of the woods yet. He's may need surgery in June. but for now he's doing good.

b) My hard drive at work failed yesterday. The two things I did not back up [ a database and some statistics] would have set me back by 3 weeks. But this am, my IT guy recovered those files and he is going to have everything back to me after lunch!

c) It's a gorgeous day so I am going to go to the beach and eat my lunch.
1. I had good tofu banh mi for dinner last night and thought ahead to order an extra for lunch today. I'm about to eat it.
2. My coworker who talks loudly on the phone all day on personal calls is out sick today with a sore throat (ironic) so it is quiet and peaceful.

Cake. Cake is happening and it is good.

One of my dearest friends is having a baby and the first fetal health screening went very well.

Also, Guy gets home tomorrow.

I was accepted to three grad programs out of the four I applied to (the one rejection came from my reach school, so it was sort of expected).

But it's sort of a good news/bad news thing because MuddDude's having trouble finding a job, so our plans are very tenuous right now.

It is a gorgeous day today, and I got to take a walk with my best friend and her daughter.

I took a nap after our walk, and awoke to find that my favorite lunch had been made for me.

I didn't have to clean up after myself after lunch.

Tonight my man and I are going out to dinner with our couple "best friends".

I am so happy to be back in Sao Paulo.

Lots of good things this week. I hope everyone else's week is filled with good stuff, too.

I've got five corset orders in the pipeline!

I got all my work done today.

I just had a lovely dinner.

Tonight it's Project Runway followed by the first episode of the new series of The Apprentice. I am a complete sucker for 'contestant' shows where someone is eliminated each week after failing a task.

The meds I am taking for the sinus infection I've had for the past 3 days seem to be starting to work, after 24 hours.

yay. . .sinus infections are not a good thing.

I'm in love and have tomorrow off, both of which are marvellous.

Going out for beers and some free music tonight, yay! I've been virtuous this week so far (not spending money, not drinking, working out a lot, eating fairly healthy) so I won't feel the least bit guilty going out tonight!

Have decided to go back to being a Java developer and am sharpening my skills, and it's making me really happy to have a good direction to follow.

I'm knitting my first sweater - a hoody - out of soft pretty yarn and it's actually going pretty fast and seems to be working. It'll be the second thing I've ever knitted for myself (I seem to have knitted for a lot of other people over the years).

Glad to hear all the good things from everyone else too - keep it up, it's making me happier!

Congratulations, Sil! I still have my first knitted sweater from when I was 14.

My DVD player won't work (I'm hoping Ardiril will be able to fix it--he seems qualified, based on all his jobs), but for the rest of this week while housesitting I'm going to catch up on lots of DVDs like the third season of the Muppet Show.

I had sushi for lunch. Yum!

The sushi was a self reward for following thru and having a session with a personal trainer today (I just have GOT to make myself stick with weight training.) It went well, and was fun, even. Even better is a friend of mine who works for my gym had two paid up sessions that she won't be using and will be transferring them to me so I get two more for free! Yay!

It's spring. Spring is springing.

Usually at this time of year, I'm so deeply buried in projects and assignments that I miss it: when I put my nose into the book, everything's gray and slick, and by the time I surface a few weeks later, there are green blooms and chirping birds peeking up everywhere.

This year, I'm seeing the spring.

I'm trying to be proud of myself because of a major personal accomplishment on Monday. Small but important step. It's a scary steep slope uphill.

Plus - I just ate a whole chocolate bar! Now, that's good.

Ten days until film school! I still have to write a treatment and a scene but at least I decided on the subject.

I hear ya. It's been at least 5 years that I haven't been hiding away the entire year. I'm so glad to be part of life again.

Today I finished preparing another garden. 3 down, 3 to go. WOO HOO! Go ME!!

... says it all.

I had a really great meeting with the careers advisor at Uni yesterday - she gave some great advice on job hunting in the specific areas that I'm looking at, and gave some great strategies in how to go about getting jobs in those areas. My resume is beginning to come along, and I'm really happy with the progress I've made with it. I'm feeling happy, and grounded, and I thought I'd be a mess. Also - an old lecturer from university emailed me the other day, out of the blue - just to say hi. She's volunteered to be a reference for me, which makes me happy.

Also, it's a nice day - though the Grand Prix is on, and as I live pretty close to it it's bloody noisy - and the apartment two above me is having renovations this week with lots of loud drilling. Not good.

But! I'm about to catch up with a friend, so it's not going to bother me for long!

And I went to a free movie last night - and caught up with a couple of friends.

I tidied my apartment today, and plan to make it spotless tomorrow (one day for clutter, the next for cleaning). My headache is almost gone. I may go to sleep at a reasonable hour tonight.

I finished a non-craft related (oh shit, I was about to say "or food related" but it totally is! But it's real writing, not a cookbook) book last night. I was starting to think I was no longer capable.

My day was unremarkable until the evening, when I took a walk by the beach at a nearby beautiful park and decided to feel hopeful. My sneaks got wet.

I also spent the morning cleaning, washing, and airing things out. It's still too cold to leave the windows open all the time here, but the rainy breeze was refreshing while I was scrubbing away.

My financial situation is slowly starting to heal, and upon review isn't as bad as I was fearing. Having debt with nothing to show for it like a house or a degree or pretty shiny things makes me feel like an idiot, but now I'm getting some idea of how to fix it and can afford to do so. Very, very slowly.

The plots of two books which I've been poking at for a long time have fallen beautifully into place at last, and writing is exciting again.

Holy moley, Hugh, this simple phrase just made my home life better. I will impliment it immediately!

I volunteered this morning. I watched my sweet nephew in the afternoon. We went to piano lessons and then I made tacos. It's all good.

On a whim while doing busywork I sent an email in to the Cafferty File segment on CNN, which I'd had playing in the background. An hour later, the dude read my comment! It was cool beans.

Work has been very strange the last two months. I was going to say why, but would rather not violate someone's right to privacy, so I won't.

Very strange.

It's back to normal now.

I think.
