23 March 2009

Mt. Redoubt is currently errupting. [More:]

I hope this means I won't have to go to work tomorrow, because that's as prepared as I got.
So far I can only find pictures from two days back.

The big band of red at the bottom of this activity graph is the eruption. I just took the screenshot.

Crazy.

arse: It's almost midnight, doubt there are any photos of it.

No your Flickr is fine and yes the midnight thing may explain the lack of pictures :)

KTUU, our NBC affiliate, is saying that flights to Anchorage have turned around.

I just put water bottles in the fridge, though I'm not expecting a heavy dusting of ash.

Wild. Good luck up there... hope the ash is minimal.

Wow, that is pretty cool. Not cool if it causes human harm, neat if it doesn't.

Cool. They've been monitoring this for a few weeks, right?

I grew up on the Atlantic coast of Canada and I remember the coating of ash on my grandfather's car after Mount St. Helens quite vividly. I wonder if that will happen again?

They've been monitoring it for a while, yes. So long that no one really cared any more.

There have now been five eruptions, but no ash advisory for Anchorage. Which means I have to go to work. Here are some more links before I go shower:

My friend Mitch went out to the 24hr Safeway stores and found the water aisles empty.

Seismogram at 3.30, three hours ago.

Radar image showing 5th eruption. And here's the 3rd eruption.

And the Anchroage Daily News article. Though I hear it's hit the National news.

I was living in Anchorage in 1989 when it erupted then. One of the most memorable times of my life. And there were some fabulous sunsets in the weeks afterwards.

Stay safe, don't stir up the ash, and oh, how I envy anyone who is in Alaska. I miss it with all my heart.

The webcam got a shot of tonight's eruption. That would be the 6th and the smallest.

Christ, what an ash-hole.
