23 March 2009

DeadAt YourAge.Com is a handy website that tells you about people who died at your exact age to the day. In my case: Dimebag Darrell. Yeesh.
I've outlived Sam Cooke by three weeks. That makes me very sad.

It seems James Doohan (Scotty from Star Trek) lived exactly twice as long as my current age. I take that as a good omen.

And apparently I was 11 when Elvis died.

Wow... I've outlived John Keates.

"You've outlived Joe Strummer by one day. He died of a heart attack on December 22, 2002, when you were 44 years old."

"Errol Flynn was almost two weeks younger than you when he died of a heart attack on October 14, 1959."

Ironically, whenever I hospitalized for some heart related event, the nurses always say, "We don't often see people in here as young as you." I want to say, "Because people my age usually die from a heart attack."

btw, nice find, jon.

I've outlived Antoine de St. Exupery (who wrote "The Little Prince") by almost two weeks.

That does it, I'm cancelling the "let's fly old-timey airplanes across the desert" jaunt I'd planned for this weekend.

I'm half as old as Carl Sagan when he died.

"You've outlived Lisa Lopes by about 2 months. She was a singer with Grammy Award-winning hip-hop trio TLC".

and John Harvard (by 3 months)

umm, not quite what I expected.

That's awesome.
At your exact age, Robert Capa died of injuries sustained in battle. He was a photojournalist known for graphic images of Spanish Civil War and World War II.
Also:
You've outlived Ray Sharkey by almost a week. He was an actor who won a Golden Globe for his role in "The Idolmaker" (1981). He died of AIDS on June 11, 1993, when you were 24 years old.
How heartwarming.

My son turns 16 on May 1 and has outlived King Edward VI of England and Anne Frank by 2 months.

omg. I've outlived Grace Kelly by about 2 months. Sad, but I'm not sure why. Am I sad for her or me or ??

Anyway, still a cool post. Thanks Jon.

Ho ho ho, Antoine Watteau!

I always wondered if I'd outlive that rococo bastard.

"You've outlived Charles VIII by two days. He was a Dauphin of France (1470-83) and King of France (1483-98). He died of injuries from accidental blow to head on April 7, 1498, 484 years before you were born."

Sad story. I'm telling everyone to back off with the noogies from now on.

Ardiril, I guess we're pretty close:

"At your exact age, Errol Flynn died of a heart attack. He was a dashing hero of such golden-era films as "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938)."

I have outlived singers and pilots. Not sure what that means.

Adrianne Shelly. Whoah.

I have outlived Jam Master J, who was murdered on the streets of Jamaica, Queens, and Ethel Rosenberg, who died at the electric chair for passing atomic bomb secrets to the Soviets.

This is just weird.

Nice find, Jon!

Dimebag Darrell was quite famous locally here in Fort Worth. I knew several people who (claimed to have) played with him at various times. He was apparently a very unpretentious dude.

On Thursday I reach the age that Lurch on the Adams Family died.

:(

What a depressing, yet enthralling, website.

I am exactly half the age of Queen Catherine, King Charles II's queen consort. That's... not so exciting.

I've outlived Dorothy Dandridge over here.

Ferdinand VI of Spain by almost a week. He was the king of Spain (1746-59) who suffered from depression and was patron of the castrato singer Farinelli.

I too suffer from depression and am patron of not one but TWO castrato singers who happen also to be dogs. My life takes on new meaning!

I've managed to outlive Hank Williams and Christopher Marlowe.

Kinda feel like I've wasted my life...

You are 36 years and 196 days old today.

You've outlived Graham Bond by almost a week. He was an innovative R&B keyboardist and founder of the Graham Bond Organisation. He died of suicide by jumping in front of a train on May 8, 1974, when you were 1 year old.

Also, Phil Lynott was two months younger than me when he died.

Congratulations!
You've lived 14,491 days

You've outlived General Emiliano Zapata by two days. He was a leader of the Mexican Revolution and of the Zapatista faction. He died by assassination on April 10, 1919, 51 years before you were born.
Combined with,
You've outlived Frédéric Chopin by about two weeks. He was a Polish-French composer of Romantic masterpieces for the solo piano. He died on October 17, 1849, 120 years before you were born.

So, yeah, I need to get busy.

This post somehow strikes me as eponysterical. ;) Thanks jon!

If I make it 7 more days, I will have outlived Malcolm X.
posted by Melismata 24 March | 09:45
You are 42 years and 99 days old today.

An appropriately obscure personage:

You've outlived Andreas Hofer by almost two weeks. He was a Tyrolean innkeeper who led the rebellion against Napoleon's invading forces. He died of execution by firing squad on February 20, 1810, 157 years before you were born.

And:

Albert DeSalvo was about two weeks younger than you when he died by murder in prison on November 25, 1973. He was a convicted rapist believed to be The Boston Strangler although he was not convicted for those murders. You were 6 years old when he died.

Wow, after clicking the browse link, I've noticed that a lot of people died violently at my age. *goes back to bed for a year*

Apparently, I haven't outlived anyone very interesting. So far.

My woman has outlived Tadeusz Borowski. Interesting in that I read his excellent concentration camp memoir, "This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen".

How did he die? Suicide by gas, in his Warsaw apartment, 1951.

Do you get it? The struggle to survive in Auschwitz was all set up, and the death was the punchline. A life doesn't usually have such tight comedic clarity, so good on him I say. Two cookies!
