Colony collapse disorder Bees are essential for pollinating an astounding number of human food crops, and in the past few years, their dramatic disappearance from commercial hives has been alarming, with significant impact predicted for mankind's food supplies.

Diana Cox-Foster and Dennis vanEngelsdorp survey for Scientific American the latest understanding of this complicated disorder.
Hey thanks for this. It's an issue I've been following for a while, and I need to review it.

CCD is freaky. Combine that with white nose disease in bats and you've got the makings of food shortages and insect plagues. Just saying.

In reading the phrase "colony collapse disorder," I initially elided the "y," and thought, Now, that's fucked up. Then I read the article.

Great article thanks! I've been wanted to get a hive for my backyard for a couple of years but having trouble winning over my husband.

The idea of scientists performing autopsies on bee's makes me laugh, even though I know it is serious.
