DRAMA UPDATE! I'm sure you've all been hitting refresh waiting for this...→[More:]So I went through with asking her out.

All your advice was very helpful. But more than anything I just needed to put it out there so it would seem like a big dare that I couldn't back down from.

I decided to go the simple route. We had a good chat while she cut my hair, and then as we walked down the stairs to the cashier I said, "Hey, E...hold on, this is awkward, but I gotta ask you something..."

"I've always enjoyed talking to you while I'm here...and, well, I wish I could do it without wearing that plastic cape. So would you like to go out to dinner with me next weekend?"

I got a big laugh from my lame joke and then she said yes.

I got all wound up for this and now I can't calm down. I'm going to get a drink. :)

You know what would be really awesome? Show up for the date in a nice, custom-embroidered velvet cape. And then when you see the confused/horrified look on her face, you can say, "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought I told you that I have a hard time conversing in a plastic cape. I'm much more comfortable in this sweet velvet number, and it also gives me superhuman powers. Here, let me open the door for you WITHOUT EVEN USING MY HANDS."

See, that would be awesome.
