So tell me about eyebrow waxing Mainly, does it hurt?[More:]I'm one of these very low-maintenance women who has never had a manicure, never gets things waxed etc. but I've decided that I want my eyebrows waxed. I generally give them minimal attention because I have a scar on one of them, and a freckle under the other, both of which make the hairs grow weirdly, and I find it impossible to pluck them evenly so I pretty much don't. I figure I might hand my face over to a professional and see what they can do. But I really don't like pain. Especially that kind of pull-y hair pain (I never rip off bandaids, and after giving birth, the pain I bitched about the most was removing the band aid from my iv when it pulled the hairs on my arm). So tell me. Painful?
Not painful. And cheap and quick, you can generally just walk in. I have eyebrow issues as well, and this is a habit I'll keep. Definately worth a shot. If it hurts for you, well, it's five minutes of your life, and you don't have to do it again.

Not really. If it is, go to a different salon next time. I'm always surprised by the difference it makes, too.

Two of the paralegals here often do it on their lunch break. One of them looks all red and irritated around the eyebrow for about an hour afterward and the other doesn't. So, I'd recommend going the first time when you have nowhere important to be immediately afterward.

I did it for years and it's not painful. In terms of waxing pain, I think the upper lip is worse (although I've never had a bikini wax). And hey, you've given birth, right?

Just be clear about what you want when you go. An aesthetician once gave me waaay thinner eyebrows then I wanted. I think they want you to feel like you're getting your money's worth.

I actually kind of enjoy the feeling of plucking eyebrows. Not as much the outer ones, but the inner ones, yes. I am gross.

It doesn't hurt if you're used to plucking, but it will hurt a little if you haven't pulled any hair out recently.
But it's over very very quickly, unlike bikini waxes which seem to go on forever.
Try it once and if you hate it, don't go back.

Not painful. I do it myself (when I can be arsed) using a Nads facial wand. It's easiest after a hot shower when the pores are open.

I've had it done in a salon too, and, again it didn't hurt at all. Well, no more than pulling an elastoplast off your leg would hurt. And it takes, like, a second.

I think it hurts like crazy but then it is over quickly and looks good. My problems are twofold: a) I have giant bushy brows inherited from my Irish father and I don't want them transformed into 1930s Betty Boop tiny half circles, yet the waxer always wants to do just that and b) the skin around them gets red and irritated and stays that way for a couple of hours.

Just remember, humans do not have a memory for pain. That has got me through some of my scarier moments.

It wouldn't be the first time, loiseau.

It hurts for like 2 seconds. Has someone ever pinched you? That's about it.

I had mine waxed for a few years in high school, and it doesn't really hurt. It probably hurts the most the first time, and then the pain fades. Doing it for a few years got me to the point where I could start taking care of them myself.

I just started getting mine done last month. I agree that it doesn't really hurt, mainly because it happens so quickly, but I am having trouble with my brows, or at least the top of them, staying red and bumpy for several days afterward.

Though I think it was exacerbated by the esthetician showing me various brow make-up tricks right after she waxed them the first time; the second time I declined the cosmetic stuff and the bumpiness and redness didn't seem as bad.

It actually bothers me more when she comes at my face with tweezers or scissors. She's never hurt me, but that's when the "AARGH! MUST PROTECT EYES!!!" instinct kicks in and I start flinching.

I usually self-pluck but have tried waxing a few times. It didn't really hurt but I also had problems w/ red bumpiness staying around for several days. I tried it a few more times with the same result and gave up on it because it was clear my skin was not ok with this idea.

I'd like to try threading, though.

I wax mine. I'm usually red after for a bit, but I'm very pale with very thick hair. I think it hurts less than tweezing since it is painful, but it's fast. Your eyes may mist up for a second but then it's over.

HOWEVER Do not go to a supercuts or the like. I went there for mine... I was BLEEDING after. The woman pulled it off at the totally wrong angle, too slow, and took skin with it. Go to someplace reputable that does a lot of waxes. And really, around here at least, you save maybe $3 cheaping out and going to the chains.

A good place will wax, trim, and tweeze any strays. You can also tell them how you want them. I usually just tell them I want a dramatic 40s style curve, and she knows what I mean. (as opposed to a very thin brow or a more angular one).

Thanks for all the feedback, folks. Now I just have to muster up the courage to enter a place that does it! (new situation anxiety, hi!)

If you haven't considered threading, you might want to think about it. I've never had my eyebrows waxed, so I can't tell you whether it hurts more or less, but if you have sensitive skin, it's gentler than waxing.

It doesn't hurt. Make sure you tell them where you want waxed. They might take off more than you like. I find that a fuller brow is more attractive. A groomed version of the shape you were born with is probably the way to go. After you get a few waxes, you might be able to do it yourself. I tweeze my eyebrows but use Surgi Wax everywhere else and it's so easy. I'm also my sister's waxer and I use Surgi Wax on her face. It's a cinch.

If you are getting red and bumps you may want to change your waxer. Everyone pulls it off a different way and some people are just better at it.

Also regular exfoliation is important.

I've had my entire body waxed and eyebrows are the least painful. If you want pain try a Brazilian or underarms (^_^).

For me, I think it's just the "virgin skin" thing with my eyebrows. The same esthetician has waxed other bits of me without any problem.

occhiblu, get a new waxer.

Oh,ok, maybe it is just your virgin skin breaking out. If it happens again, get a new waxer. Make sure you inform the current waxer of your reaction - she might opt to use a gentler wax and/or a different technique.

Waxing pain depends on lots of variables - your skin, your hair, even where you are in your cycle. Waxing hurts heaps more leading up to & during your period, and not just bikini or legs, but overall. If you're planning your first waxing trip, schedule for just after your period has finished.

I find eyebrows quite painful...not unbearable tho. The waxing is a breeze, its the tweezing of the strays I hate. Girls, as you get older, your eyebrows will attempt to join your hairline and you'll get all these silly fine hairs where you never had hairs on your face before.

You'll be in and out in 15 minutes. Much easier than childbirth, about the same as getting a tattoo.

Oh also, don't do it yourself, leave it to a professional to get the shaping right. I'd never trust myself to get both even. If you have trouble removing bandaids, you'll cause yourself pain & potentially cause scarring doing it yourself. A professional waxer hurts much less than removing a bandaid. Your eyebrows will be far less painfun than the medi tape from the IV. Please tell your waxer all your concerns first, and it you're comfortable with the repsonses, find a different waxer who does reassure you.
