Victory is ours! "Breaking News: Brian Hartman of ABC News’ The Note filed a report today that confirms that there will be a veggie garden on the White House Lawn."[More:]
As a gardener and an eater, I couldn't be happier. As a farmer, I worry about my market getting too DIY.
This is cool.

Bully pulpit and all that.

OMG no way!!! The Eat the View White House Garden campaign was started by a guy I know from Slow Food, who lives near Portland, ME. Woweeee! Way to be!

This is a really big deal in the garden/local food world. Awesome, awesome, awesome.

I thought, somehow, that the news might make your day, Miko.

Actually, i got the news a bit before you posted this, and I went to try to post it as an update for an FPP I did in early Feb. Of course, the thread was closed. Ah well.

I have a feeling the community-garden and local-foods listservs are exploding right about now.

Stewriffic, recently on the gray there was a catchall "followup to all closed threads" thread. Maybe there?

No kidding!

My fave comment from that blog post:

What is going to be next, some chickens running around the White House????
and some clothes lines in the "back yard"????

OH NOES!

Cool!

Cue organic vs. heirloom vs. whatever seedstock wank.

I would laugh so very, very hard if it turned out that the garden was going to be a demonstration bed for Monsanto's latest and most advanced genetically modified seeds. Not a happy laugh, but a laugh.

Used to be goats, to keep the lawn trimmed.

Well, our POTUS and FLOTUS are people who are becoming tastemakers, so why not use the White House to encourage people to get back to this country's better roots of hard work, "Yankee" ingenuity (sorry Southerners) and producing things that people want again?
