Model Mayhem! An open casting call for the reality television program “America’s Next Top Model” turned into mayhem on Saturday afternoon in Midtown Manhattan. Fights broke out, three people were arrested and at least six others suffered minor injuries after they were pushed down in a crush of thousands of aspiring models waiting in line to be discovered. And I had been there all day!!![More:] Stynx and I were there most of the day, waiting to see if I could get in to audition, because, why the heck not. I actually left because I began to feel uncomfortable about the lack of crowd control and the growing restlessness of the crowd. Holy cow. So glad I left. Can't believe that many people were still there almost 3 hours later, still waiting.
Holy shit, didja see that video? The sound of it is amazing, cause, how often do you hear that meny females uh, rioting? Sounds like a Beatlemania-era Beatles clip without a Beatles song going on at the same time.

And, glad you got out of there, TPS. You coulda gotten hurt!

That's poor planing by the producers. Glad you bailed when you did.

Wow, that video is amazing- that's the entrance to the audition, where the most people had been congregating all day; I made it as far as the corner to the west of the door.

I had been having a good time all day, I really did, I even made a new friend, but I sensed the crowd was getting angry and I didn't want to stay for the result- most of those women had been standing there all day long (I got there at 8 a.m. and the line was already wrapped all the day around the block; I think a large number of people slept on the street overnight), not eating, not drinking, not going to the bathroom, not even sitting down. Damn straight people are going to get upset. And nobody had any idea of what was going on with the audition, there was no chain of communcation. The whole event was very poorly organized, it's amazing to me that no one was severely injured.

Short angry women! They can turn nasty if you cross them.

Short angry women that haven't had a damn thing to eat all day. I was lucky to have Stynx there to run over to Subway and get me a sandwich.

Sheesh they didn't see you and you already have an entourage!

They missed out big time.

You were wearing over-sized sunglasses and a pout right?

aw, maaaaaaaaan. Our chance to see TPS on ANTM, and stoopid riot had to ruin it for us. grrr.

But that video is seriously one of my worst nightmares... crowds freak me out. That was scary.

Yeah, that was scary. I usually like the NYDN but this story took everything a little lightly ... "hotties in heels" etc.

Frankly, even knowing that there were other extenuating circumstances, that whole thing just gave me a whiff of major popular desperation, a big They Shoot Horses, Don't They? vibe.

I feel like the stress of this "Great Recession" (a phrase that seems to be gaining some official currency) is going to lead to a lot more of these mad mass experiences involving shots at fame and money.

Have you been talking to my husband? Heh.

Man, so sorry we won't see TPS with Miss Tyra. That would seriously ROCK.

Now you can say to your grandchildren, "I was there!"

Darn it, TPS. I was hoping you'd get in to audition and tell us all about it. I would watch ANTM every week without fail if you were on.

I'm glad you got out of there before the mayhem broke out. I wonder how they could better manage it. They should probably have some sort of online registering, issue ticket numbers, and span it over three days or so. That is way too many people for one day. I'm amazed they found and arrested the riot inciters in that crowd and I'm amazed nobody was seriously injured, thanks goodness!

Short angry women that haven't had a damn thing to eat all day year.

Fixed that for you. Glad you bailed before the madness.

No, I assure you, most of these women appear to have been eating properly up until the day of the audition.

Texted with my friend who who was there for the chaos- she got pressed against a wall and almost fractured her wrist. Had I still been there, I undoubtedly would have been standing right next to her.
