Friday Lyrics Challenge I thought I'd give one of these a go. This one is for the old folks and even has a hidden theme.[More:]

1. "I only feel right on my knees"
2. "Peace is a dream, reality is a knife"
3. "You gotta meet me by the knuckles of the skinnybone tree"
4. "I am the heart that you call home"
5. "And I'm laying out my winter clothes"
6. "You look so weird and you're so far from home "
7. "He's never early, he's always late"
8. "What is the color when black is burned?"
9. "You will hear the shrillest highs"
10. "But begging's not my business"
Sorry...should have [more inside]ed that...

2. is 'Colors,' by Ice-T.

7. is 'Waiting for My Man,' by the Velvet Underground.

3 is Tom Waits. Is it 16 Shells from a 30-06? I'm pretty sure it's something of either Swordfishtrombones or Rain Dogs.

mct is right with 16 Shells from a Thirty Aught Six

4 is the Decemberists, that incredibly sad breakup song on Picaresque.

The Engine Driver. That's the name.

10 is a Squeeze song I believe.

oh, and 8 is "I Am a Child" by Neil Young.

All correct so far...that leaves 1, 5, 6 and 9...and the connecting theme.

5 is Simon and Garfunkel. I can't remember which song, though, The Boxer?

Expanded/extra lines from the holdouts:

1. "My heart is like a broken cup, I only feel right on my knees"
6. "But it's no hanging matter,It's no capital crime"

I think the theme may be tricky. It has to do with the lyrics, but not the ones I quoted.

I googled the last two just to try to figure the theme. Still working it out.

On preview, ah, I was going on title.

1. So then 1 is "Who Are You"

By the way, googling the lyrics to "16 Shells" and seeing the number of links that credit it to Bob Seger is just depressing as hell.

The first clue is "opening line".

They all begin with "I am"

Close enough for a win...they all begin with I (or I'm).
#6 was Stray Cat Blues by the Rolling Stones.

How's the weather? || My heart was just moved by (of all things) a game show.
