At the Edinburgh zoo they have a few of these, and a big-ass tree in their enclosure. I was fascinated by them and stood making coochy-coochy noises to them feeling like I "made contact" and all that sillyness, when one of the cutest little guys climbed up the tree and out on a branch so that he hung right above me, so that he could inspect me a bit closer. I've been in love ever since. (I mean, that Panda could technically leave his area at any given moment with that big branch hanging outside of his enclosure like that. Maybe just swat me over the head a little, but he was hanging out like a curious cat just toying with me.)
This is so funny. I learned about the red panda last week while I was volunteering in second grade. I now know that the Americans thought it was related to the raccoon. The Chinese had a name for it, in Chinese of course, that translated to red fox.
